Watford vs Southampton – The Form Guide

Watford should be reasonably satisfied with their league position of 16th given they were rock bottom when Pearson took over. Despite being 16th, they are only one point from safety. It’s congested at the lower end of the table with three teams only 27, one less than Watford.

The Hornets haven’t quite been buzzing since the restart. A 1-1 draw at home to Leicester was followed up with a 1-0 loss away to Burnley. This means they have now only won one of their last nine Premier League games, having won four of their previous five.

The Saints scored thee against Norwich on their first game since the restart in an easy 3-0 win. However, they couldn’t follow up that performance against Arsenal on Thursday, losing 2-0. Although defeated, Southampton had their chances and could have come away with at least a point.

In losing to Arsenal, Southampton registered their 10th home defeat of the season and only six on the road. Remarkably, they have picked up 62% of their points away from home. This loss was also their third in five outings.

What is the Team News?

Watford remains without Daryl Janmaat, Isaac Success, and Gerard Deulofeu through injury. Craig Cathcart is hoping to shake off a niggle while Abdoulaye is also pushing for a return.

Pearson may make a couple of changes to the starting XI that lost to Burnley.

Southampton’s Jack Stephens is suspended for this one having picked up a red card against Arsenal.

Moussa Djenepo is also serving the last of his three-match suspension on Sunday, so is not available for selection.

Ralph Hasenhuttl watched Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg hobble off against Arsenal, and he isn’t expected to feature. Furthermore, Sofiane Boufal is a major doubt.

Predicted line-ups

Watford line-up: Foster; Femenia, Cathcart, Dawson, Masina; Sarr, Doucoure, Capoue, Pereyra; Deeney, Gray

Southampton line-up: McCarthy; Valery, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Bertrand; Armstrong, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Redmond; Ings, Long

Watford vs Southampton Latest Odds*

You can back Watford to get their second win in 10 games at 29/20 (2.45) with Sportingbet. Watford do have an excellent home record under Pearson, with only Liverpool securing more points than them at home. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they don’t have a great record against the Saints.

Southampton are unbeaten in their last five meetings (W2 D3). Despite that, they are outsiders. Sportingbet have them priced at 39/20 (2.95). Considering their away from – this could be decent value.

Watford’s good home record and Southampton’s good away record may cancel each other out. Therefore, the draw at 23/10 (3.3) looks quite appealing from a betting point of view.

Watford vs Southampton Score Prediction

Watford boast the second-lowest goal tally in the league for the season, netting only 28 times in 31 games. Southampton have fared better with 38, but are by no means prolific.

Danny Ings has scored almost 50% of Southampton’s tally (16) so if Watford can keep him under control then they have a decent chance.

Only eight goals have been scored over the last four meetings, so we’re not expecting a goal-fest.

Correct score pick: 1-1 with Sportingbet at 23/4 (6.75)

Watford vs Southampton Tip

Watford stunned newly crowned champions, Liverpool here not long before the league was halted, and they are capable of claiming all three points.

Southampton, however, looks the sharper since the restart. If Stephens didn’t get his marching orders against Arsenal, you would have expected the Saints to get back in that game.

Southampton will likely take a cautious approach here with Watford more in need of the points. Because of that, we’re not expecting much goalmouth action.

Best bet: Draw and under 2.5 goals at 23/10 (3.3) with Sportingbet
