Manchester City vs Burnley – The Form Guide
The stats speak for how dominant a display Manchester City put on over Arsenal in London. As well as scoring three, Pep Guardiola’s side hit 12 on target compared with the Gunners zero. They held just short of 70% possession and Ederson was rarely threatened.
The Cityzens are once again the league’s most prolific scorers with 71 this campaign (double Burnley’s total). In saying that, the light blues have lost two of their last five league games, so it’s not all going their way.
Burnley have accumulated 39 points after 29 games, only one short of their tally last season. They have won 11 of those, matching last year’s total. So, all in all it’s been a decent campaign for the Clarets.
Before the break in the season, Dyche’s side were unbeaten in seven, drawing three and winning two of their last five. If they can pick up where they left off, it could be an interesting game.
What is the Team News?
Eric Garcia suffered a nasty head injury against Arsenal. Ederson came rushing out of his box, colliding with the young Spaniard. He is not expected to feature.
With the luxury of a fully fit sqaud otherwise, we’d expect Pep to make a few changes to the side that beat Arsenal.
Burnley, on the other hand, have a number of notable absentees. Strikers Chirs Wood and Ashley Barnes are both ruled out with injury in what is a real blow for the Clarets.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson is also unlikely to feature having picked up a strained calf.
On top of injury worries, Dyche will also be concerned with the number of players due to be out of contract at the end of the month. Phil Bardsley, Joe Hart, Adam Legzdins and Jeff Hendrick could all depart.
Man City line up: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Zinchenko, B Silva, Rodri, Foden, Sane, Aguero, Sterling
Burnley line up: Pope, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Vydra, Rodriguez
Manchester City vs Burnley Latest Odds*
Manchester City are short for this one, very short. NetBet have the hosts at 1/8 (1.13) for the win which is just about as short of odds you’re likely to see in the Premier League.
City have won eight of the last nine meetings between the sides in all competitions racking up a 27-6 aggregate. So, it’s clear to see why they are so fancied.
In contrast, Burnley are a massive 19/1 (20.0). They are winless in 15 away league games to City so while the price is huge, it could be for good reason.
The draw with NetBet is 33/4 (9.25) at the time of writing.
Manchester City vs Burnley Score Prediction
In the reverse fixture, City put Burnley to the sword. An emphatic 4-1 scoreline could have been worse for the home side. City showed on Wednesday that they have been keeping themselves fit during the lockdown and will be a huge threat to the Burnley goal.
In saying that, Nick Pope has been in inspired form this season between the sticks for Burnley. The English shot-stopper has kept 11 clean sheets and has been man-of-the-match on several occasions.
Without their big strikers to call on, the Clarets will in all likelihood defend with 11 behind the ball. It will be tough for City but if they score early doors it could spell trouble.
Manchester City vs Burnley Tip
Everything points towards as home win, and we’re following the odds on this one. It would be difficult to see anything apart from a City win. But with such short odds on many markets, it's difficult to pick out a bet that we see as value.
Burnley are expected to play behind the ball and with City looking to get in the box, we reckon there’s a good shout for a penalty. Kevin De Bruyne disposed a spot-kick on Wednesday, and we can see him doing the same on Monday.
