Bundesliga To Return on the 16th of May Confirmed: Upcoming Fixtures, Table, and Latest News

The German Bundesliga becomes the first major league in Europe to announce that their season will commence. Matches will take place from 16th May under strict guidelines. Another week of delays pointed to further delays, but the 16th has now been confirmed. There is a minimum of nine rounds of fixtures remaining for each club, all of which will be played behind closed doors.

While we wait for the action to resume, let’s take a look at the current standings and what matches we can expect to see.

Bundesliga to Resume 16th of May 2020 – All the Latest

It’s the news that all football fans have been waiting to hear. Football is finally back. Of course, not under ‘normal’ circumstances, but back none the less. The German Bundesliga could pave the way for other leagues across Europe to follow suit and no doubt the English FA will be watching closely. Matches are set to resume with very strict safety rules in place, including the continuous testing of players.

The 2019/20 season has so far been one of the closest title races in many years. Four sides have a realistic chance of being crowned champions with only 7 points separating the top four. Bayern Munich are hot favourites with the reigning champs opening a four-point gap on rivals Borussia Dortmund. However, the two sides still need to play each other which could make for a very entertaining end to the season.

Upcoming Bundesliga Fixtures

The fixtures have now been formally announced with the league picking up where it left off. With this in mind, the fixture list for the first weekend is:

Fixture Date Kick-off (BST)

The tie of the round is undoubtedly the Dortmund vs Shalke derby. This is regarded as one of the biggest derbies in Germany and is enjoyed by fans across the globe. It will be the first time the match has been played without fans which will likely have an effect on how the game is played.
