RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Premier League Preview: Betting Tips, Team News & Predictions – 10/03/2020

Tottenham travel to Germany on Tuesday night with the difficult task of overcoming a home defeat in the Champions League. Jose Mourinho’s side were beaten 1-0 in the first leg in a scoreline that flattered the London side.

RB Leipzig will be confident in getting a result against Spurs with that all-important away goal. In saying that, a one-goal advantage is slim, and they will be wary of Tottenham’s ‘nothing to lose’ mentality.

RB Leipzig vs Tottenham – The Form Guide

RB Leipzig could progress to the Quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time in their history if they win here. They outplayed Spurs in February, and really ought to have scored more. Hugo Lloris was awarded the man of the match, which pretty much sums up how one-sided the affair was.

The Red Bulls are doing well domestically. They sit third in a competitive Bundesliga with 50 points from 25 games, only four points behind leaders Bayern Munich. However, they were held to a 0-0 draw away to Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Spurs were run ragged by the young German outfit in the first leg and will need to improve hugely. Since their defeat in the Champions League, Tottenham haven’t registered a single win. They have been beaten twice and drawn twice in that time. Furthermore, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Premier League strugglers Norwich.

It’s not looking good for Spurs chances here. Their lack of attackers is evident and there doesn’t seem to be a formation that could cause the Germans a problem. It will be interesting to see what approach Mourinho goes for.

What is the Team News?

Star defender Dayot Upamecano sat out the first leg through suspension but is available here. He will no doubt start with several impressive performances.

Willi Orban is slowly coming back into the mix having been missing following knee surgery. He made the bench on Saturday and RB Leipzig will be thrilled to have their captain back. We would expect he won’t be risked from the start here but could feature on the bench.

Ibrahima Konate and Kevin Kampl are still unavailable through injury and definitely won’t play parts here.

Timo Werner is struggling with a thigh injury but the German International is expected to be fit enough to play.

Spurs are of course without Harry Kane and Son Heung-min with injuries.

Dutch youngster Steven Bergwijn picked up a knock in his sides 1-1 draw with Burnley but was expected to shake it off. It has since been announced that he is set for a few weeks in the sidelines as a result, so he will not play a part here.

Giovani Lo Celso has been impressing this season for the Liilywhites and should claim a spot on the team sheet.

Tony Parrott may be given his first Champions League start with Spurs having it all to do.

Predicted Line-Ups

RB Leipzig Predicted Line-up: Gulácsi; Klostermann, Upamecano, Halstenberg; Adams, Laimer, Sabitzer, Angeliño; Werner, Schick, Nkunku.

Tottenham Predicted Line-up
: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Sánchez, Davies; Winks, Dier, Lo Celso; Parrott, Moura, Alli.

RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Latest Odds

A Timo Werner penalty is the difference, and this gives the Germans the deserved favourite tag. Coral have them priced at 4/7 (1.57) to get a win on the night and a very short 1/8 (1.13) to qualify from the tie. Considering they have won only once in their last four European home games; we don’t see much value in those odds.

Spurs are the underdogs and are a huge 24/5 (5.8) to win in the 90 with Coral and 9/2 (5.5) to get to the next round. The Londoners have won five of their 14 away games in Germany, losing seven in the same period. So there is a chance they can turn things around.

A draw on the night is considered a 16/5 (4.2) shot with Coral.

RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Score Prediction

Wener has netted 27 times already this season and will no doubt fancy his chances against a shaky Spurs defence. Remarkably, Leipzig have scored 62 goals in 25 league games, 22 more than Spurs have in 29 matches.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Burnley with their goal coming from the penalty spot. Previous to this draw, they had lost four in a row but haven’t failed to score since their defeat to Leipzig.

With this in mind, we think that RB Leipzig will outscore Spurs, but it will be closer than the odds suggest.

We like the look of a 2-1 correct score at 7/1 (8.0) with Coral.

RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Tip

The bookies are giving Spurs little chance of overturning a 1-0 deficit. RB Leipzig have won three of their last five league games and have been banging in the goals. This is almost the exact opposite of what has been happening with Spurs. Mourinho’s side last won on the 16th of February and were lucky to grab a point on Saturday.

It will take something special if they are to get a result away to Leipzig but with the German sides form, we can’t see it happening. Tottenham have to go for this with no other trophies on the horizon and could nick a goal, but we can’t see them keeping a clean sheet. We think RB Leipzig will win but their win odds are a little too short, therefore we’re backing them with both teams to score.

Best bet: RB Leipzig to win and both teams to score at 2/1 (3.0) with Coral
