Everton vs Liverpool – The Form Guide
Everton have improved drastically under Carlo Ancelotti although you wouldn’t have been able to tell last weekend. The Toffees were dominated by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and managed a season-low of three shots all game. They were poor at the back and some schoolboy defending cost them dearly. The Blue side of the Mersey are now winless in three.
Liverpool suffered a shock defeat away to Watford two matches ago but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. The win was far from comfortable however with the Cherries being the makers of their own downfall. The Reds take on Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in their second-leg last 16 Champions League tie; Liverpool trail 1-0 there and you sense that match could set the tone for the derby.
What is the Team News?
Ancelotti is without Jean -Philippe Gbamin, Morgan Schniederlin, Seamus Coleman, Cenk Tosun, and Bernard ahead of his first derby at home.
Moise Keane and Andre Gomes have been back in the side for a few weeks though, and their pace could hurt Liverpool.
The big news for Liverpool is that keeper Alisson is definitely ruled out with his hip injury. Stand-in keeper Adrian has made a few errors lately, so that could give the Toffees some hope.
Fabinho hasn’t looked sharp since his return from injury and may be replaced with Jordan Henderson if the club captain is deemed fit enough. He will undergo a late fitness test but reports suggest he should make it.
Andy Robertson is in a similar boat; he is expected to be back in the starting XI having missed the last league match.
Jurgen Klopp’s line-up may depend on how the squad performs on Wednesday.
Everton Predicted Line-up: Pickford; Baines, Holgate, Keane, Coleman; Sigurdsson, Gomes, Davies, Walcott; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin
Liverpool Predicted Line-up: Adrian; Robertson, Van Dijk, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold; Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson; Mane, Firmino, Mane
Everton vs Liverpool Latest Odds
Unsurprisingly, the Toffees are outsiders at 13/4 (4.25) with 888Sport. It’s a decent price considering they have won seven of their last 14 home games with their last home loss back in November. Ancelotti will have his team geared up for this one so we wouldn’t write Everton off just yet.
Liverpool come into this at 4/5 (1.8) with 888Sport, which is actually one of the highest odds they’ve been. The Reds were totally in command of the league but have recently shown signs of nerves. Henderson has been a big miss for them in midfield, and with him set to return, it could be worth a punt. Of course, Wednesday’s game could have some bearing on the game.
Interestingly, there have been three draws in the last seven meetings and two in a row at Goodison. 888Sport have the draw at 29/10 (3.9) here and looks decent value.
Everton vs Liverpool Score Prediction
The last derby in the league was a thrilling one that saw the Reds win 5-2. It was the first time in seven meetings when more than a goal separated the two. This could point to a low scoring match; however, we don’t think so.
Neither of these sides have been at their best with both sets of forwards likely to score again soon. Likewise, both keepers haven’t been performing well, and we expect them to be tested.
With this in mind, we fancy the look of a 3-2 win to Liverpool at 19/1 (20.0) with 888Sport.
Everton vs Liverpool Tip
Everton haven’t beaten Liverpool in a decade which is a telling stat. They have been in the shadows of their neighbours, and with Liverpool set to clinch a first title in 30 years will likely stay there. We expect them to put up a good fight, but with key players back for the Reds, it’s hard to back against them.
Trent Alexander Arnold is one of the players of the season and has delivered 12 assists already this season. Everton find it tough to cope on the wings with most of their defenders bossing the middle. Because of this, Alexander Arnold will have space to roam and deliver that killer pass.
With that in mind, our best bet is for him to notch another assist.
