Aston Villa were beaten 4-0 away to Leicester on Monday; the same scoreline that visitors Chelsea won by at the weekend. The Villans have had a tough season so far and in desperate need of all three points on Saturday in order to retain their Premier League status next season.
Although not at risk of relegation, Chelsea are also in need of the three points. Losing this match could define their season with in-form Manchester United waiting to knock them off of fourth spot in the table.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea – The Form Guide
Aston Villa are second bottom of the table after suffering four league defeats in a row. They were battered 4-0 by Leicester at the King Power and also lost out to fellow strugglers Bournemouth in that time. The Villans have the worst defensive record of any of the 20 clubs and will need to tighten up at the back if they want to survive.
At the other end of the table, Chelsea are finding some rhythm. After some dismal displays, the Blues are unbeaten in three and have scored six without reply in their last two games (league and FA Cup). They can’t afford any slip-up’s however with Manchester United hot on their heels.
What is the Team News?
Scotland International John McGinn is pushing for a return in this match. He has been out since December with a fractured ankle, and will undergo a late fitness test ahead of this match.
That leaves only long-term absentees Wesley and Tom Heaton ruled out for the home side.
Anwar El Ghazi may be preferred to El Mohamady in the starting XI after coming off the bench against Leicester.
Billy Gilmour is the name of everyone’s lips with the young midfielder already making an impact on the team. He has put in two man of the match performances in two starts, and Frank Lampard will be tempted to start the 18-year old again.
Tammy Abraham scored 27 goals while on loan at Villa last season but is not fit to face them on Saturday. The England striker has rejected a new contract with Chelsea, so perhaps his head isn’t in the right place to lead the line.
Lampard could welcome back N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic, but they will be assessed closer to kick-off.
Mason Mount limped off on the hour mark against Everton but should be fit for this match.
Aston Villa Predicted Line-up: Reina, Guilbert, Engels, Mings, Targett, Nakamba, El Ghazi, McGinn, Hourihane, Grealish, Samatta
Chelsea Predicted Line-up: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Zouma, Alonso, Barkley, Gilmour, Mount, Willian, Giroud, Pedro
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Latest Odds
Aston Villa won’t start this match at as big a price as you may think. Every game is a cup final for them at the moment, so they will throw everything at their opposition. BetRegal have them priced at 7/2 (4.5), which although not short is quite tight.
Chelsea have beaten Villa five times in the last five meetings and are a decent 20/29 (1.68) to get all three points here. Considering their bench will likely be strong with returning players, this looks like some nice value.
These sides haven’t played out a draw in almost a decade, but you’ll get 16/5 (4.2) with BetRegal for a stalemate this weekend.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Score Prediction
There are usually plenty of goals when these two sides meet with Chelsea having the upper hand. The visitors have been free-scoring of late which doesn’t look good for Villa’s, let’s say, shaky defence.
Chelsea have been guilty of slack play at the back themselves, with Lampard playing around with his goalkeepers. Kepa Arrizabalaga will likely start, but it feels like a case of waiting for his next big mistake. This will give Villa hope, and rightly so.
With this in mind, we do fancy Chelsea to get the win, but we also reckon both will score.
A 3-1 win to the away side is our pick at 13/1 (14.0) with BetRegal.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Tip
Chelsea were flying high early on in the season but have retained their fourth spot more because of the other teams around them. Lampard's side have lost nine games already this season which is already more than they lost for the entire campaign last year (8). They can’t afford any more mistakes if they are to push for a Champions League place next season.
Aston Villa are struggling make no mistake, but they do have 25 points. This is not the worst tally at this stage and there is still time to rescue their season. They have a game in hand over this relegation rivals, and a win there could lift them to 16th. In saying that, they have a tough run ahead and with Chelsea finding form, it’s hard to see them add to their points at the weekend.
Because of that, our best bet is with a Chelsea win.
