Manchester City slumped to a 2-0 defeat away to local rivals Manchester United on Sunday. It was the seventh league defeat of the season for Pep Guardiola’s side, surpassing the six they had suffered in the previous two seasons combined (6).

Arsenal continued their unbeaten streak in the Premier League on Saturday with a 1-0 win over West Ham. The win should give them some confidence ahead of this one. This will be Mikel Arteta’s first time managing against his former head coach and it should be a fascinating battle.

Manchester City vs Arsenal – The Form Guide

Manchester United’s win handed the Red Devils their first league double over City since Alex Ferguson’s retirement. And you have to say it was a deserved victory. City didn’t really get going despite holding over 70% of possession. They failed to carve out any clear-cut chances and this seems to be an emerging pattern.

Pep’s side scraped by Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup previously and were lucky to beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the EFL Cup last Sunday. City have lost two in their last four league games and it’s fair to say there are in their worst spell since Pep took the reins.

Arsenal beat West Ham on Saturday in somewhat controversial circumstances. Alexandre Lacazette netted with 12 minutes to go but was initially ruled offside. Video replays show that there was no such rule break in the build-up. The win lifted them within five points of fifth spot which could be enough to secure Champions League football this season.

However, they were lucky to win. West Ham spurned numerous chances with Bernd Leno forced to make six saves in the game. In fact, the German went on to be named man of the match. Arsenal’s defensive woes are clear to see and there is a lack of cutting edge in midfield. They will need to improve greatly in order to get anything from City.

What is the Team News?

The usually reliable goalkeeper, Ederson gifted United both their goals but will likely retain his place on the team sheet.

Sergio Aguero picked up a small knock in the derby and has a 50/50 chance of being fit enough for Wednesday.

Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne sat the Manchester United defeat out with a shoulder injury. His creative play was sorely missed so City fans will be hoping he will recover in time. Similar to Aguero, he has a 50/50 chance.

Aymeric Laporte has been ruled out for another four weeks with a shoulder injury, while Leroy Sane is still not match fit.

Arsenal could have Kieran Tierney and Cedric Soares available for this one. Both have been sidelined with long-term injuries and could help ease the Gunner's defensive issues. We would expect both to make the bench.

Calum Chambers is out until next season and Sead Kolasinac until next month. Therefore, Arteta will likely go for the same starting line-up as the one that beat West Ham.

Lucas Torreira is also ruled out with injury.

Predicted Line-Ups

Manchester City Predicted Line-up: Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Zinchenko, Mendy; Rodri, Fernandinho, De Bruyne; Sterling, Aguero, Bernardo Silva

Arsenal Predicted Line-up: Leno, Bellerin, Mustafi, Luiz, Papastathopoulos, Ceballos, Ozil, Xhaka, Aubameyang, Pepe, Nketiah

Manchester City vs Arsenal Latest Odds

Despite suffering a dip in form, Manchester City will be hot favourites to take all three points. SportNation currently have them priced at 20/59 (1.33) to return to winning ways will Arsenal are a massive 29/4 (8.25). Arsenal haven’t beaten Manchester City in the league since 2015, so the odds are a fair reflection of each team’s chance.

The draw is available at 19/4 (5.75) with SportNation and with such high odds provides an interesting angle from a betting point of view.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Score Prediction

Manchester City have won six in a row in this fixture with an aggregate score of 17-2. They have scored three goals in five of those six and have netted at least once in the last 12 meetings.

The Gunners clearly struggle against their Northern rivals and have scored 28 fewer goals than Manchester City this season (40/68). Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is their biggest threat as he reached 20 goals in all competitions for the season. But with the team so reliant on his goals City will surely target him which could leave Arsenal short of ideas.

Although City are in a slump, we reckon they are too strong for this Arsenal side and will end their unbeaten run.

A 3-1 scoreline to the home side is our correct pick. Get 10/1 (11.0) for that score at SportNation.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Tip

City have kept 10 clean sheets this season, which is a joint-third best in the league. They have kept two in their last four league matches, but they haven’t looked confident at the back in any of those games.

Arteta’s side have failed to score only once since the turn of the year, and he will have a unique insight into how Pep might prepare for this match.

In saying that, Manchester City should welcome back Kevin De Bruyne, and he could make a huge difference. With this in mind, we’re backing City but with Arsenal scoring at least one.

Best bet: Manchester City to win and both teams to score at 13/10 (2.3) with SportNation
