West Ham put on a heroic display against Liverpool on Monday but came away with nothing to show for their efforts. David Moye's side remain in the drop zone with only 11 games left to play; a win against visitors Southampton on Saturday is surely a must.
Beating the Saints will be easier said than done, however. Ralph Hassenhutl’s side have climbed away from the relegation zone and are 10 from the drop.
Will West Ham put on a similar show and manager to claim all three points? Find out our predictions here.

West Ham vs Southampton – The Form Guide
The Hammers were dealt a brutal blow by Liverpool on Monday night losing an epic match 3-2. Moye's side pushed Liverpool probably harder than they have been all season in the league but came up short. West Ham had numerous chances in the game and really ought to have made the league leaders pay.
It wasn’t to be, however, and West Ham must play with the same intensity going forward. They have won a measly six games all season and only once so far in 2020. That win came way back on New Year’s Day, and since then they have claimed only two points in seven league games.
Southampton’s season took a dramatic turn following their 9-0 drubbing at home to Leicester. From that moment, the Saints have looked like a different side. They have registered 10 league wins now with victory over Aston Villa last time out. Remarkably, this is one more win than they managed all of last season.
The Saints were deserved winners over Villa on Saturday and probably should have won more emphatically. Danny Ings didn’t get on the score sheet but worked tirelessly and looks set to add to his 15 goal tally.
What is the Team News?
Łukasz Fabiański was at fault for Liverpool’s second goal that brought them level with West Ham on Monday. As a result, the Polish international may find himself on the bench with Darren Randolph expected to be picked ahead of him.
Tomas Soucek picked up an injury against Liverpool which is set to see him sidelined for around three weeks. Meanwhile, Ryan Fredericks will miss out with a shoulder injury and Andriy Yarmolenko also falls out of the side with an on-going thigh complaint.
Jack Wilshere, of course, is also unavailable through injury.
The Saints have been relatively untroubled with injuries recently although there are two doubts ahead of this match. Kyle Walker-Peters could make a return after missing the Villa game but only if he is able to train.
Nathan Redmond picked up a knock to his groin and is all but ruled out here.
West Ham Predicted Line-up: Randolph, Zabaleta, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Masuaku, Rice, Fornals, Noble, Snodgrass, Antonio
Southampton Predicted Line-up: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Stephens, Vestergaard, Bertrand, Ward-Prowse, Hobjerg, Armstrong, Djenepo, Ings, Long
West Ham vs Southampton Latest Odds
West Ham have more to play for but are the slight outsiders according to Betway. They are priced at 13/8 (2.62) to get the win while Southampton are a slightly shorter 8/5 (2.6). You would have to say that on form, Southampton look the better value although the Hammers have won four of their last four meetings.
A draw at Betway is available at 5/2 (3.5) and we think this is the most interesting option for a betting stance.
West Ham vs Southampton Score Prediction
The Hammers performed well against Liverpool and created plenty of chances. However, it was their comical defending that eventually let them down. They have conceded 48 times this season, including eight in their last three. This shows that they are vulnerable at the back and are likely to let at least one goal in on Saturday.
The Saints have only failed to score once in 2020 and that was against Liverpool. They have netted 34 goals, averaging 1.25 a game and we reckon they’ll continue that here.
A 2-1 correct score to Southampton is our selection here. You can get that at 8/1 (9.0) with Betway.
West Ham vs Southampton Tip
We expect the Saints to win here, but West Ham are in desperate need of the points. Sometimes that need can drive players to grind out results. For that reason, we wouldn’t go with a match-winner for this game in terms of our best bet as it is hard to call (as the odds also suggest).
Instead, we’re looking at where some value could be. Pablo Fornals came on as a substitute during the Liverpool defeat and scored an excellent goal. Many Hammers fans were calling for him to start the match as his pace can cause problems. Much like West Ham, the Saints concede often and can be slow to attacks.
With this in mind, our best bet is going to be for anytime goalscorer.
Best bet: Pablo Fornals to score anytime at 17/4 (5.25) with Betway
