Chelsea vs Bayern Munich – The Form Guide

Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Tottenham last time out has strengthened their claims for a top-four spot. It’s been a mixed bag for the Londoners in recent weeks though. Before their victory over Jose Mourinho’s side, it had been four matches since they picked up three points in the Premier League. They’ll need to be at their best to compete with one of the best teams in Europe on Tuesday night.

Bayern’s recent form is nothing short of impeccable. The Bavarian giants have dropped just two points in their last nine Bundesliga games. That spell has seen Hans-Dieter Flick’s men recover from a poor start to the campaign. They now boast a narrow one-point lead over RB Leipzig side who were the only team to take points off them in the league since 14th December 2019.

What is the Team News?

Kepa Arrizabalaga has yet to break back into the starting line-up since being dropped three games ago. Willy Caballero has deputised in place of the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. Olivier Giroud scored his first goal since November 30th at the weekend but Tammy Abraham could be set to return to the starting line-up. Chelsea will be without N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was an unused substitute against Spurs after a spell on the side-lines.

Javi Martinez is back in training for Bayern Munich but he might not make an immediate return to the first team here. The visitors will welcome back Jerome Boateng and Benjamin Pavard, both of whom served a suspension in the narrow win over Paderborn on Friday night.

Predicted Line-Ups

Chelsea Predicted Line-up: Caballero; Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Kovacic, Jorginho, James; Barkley, Mount; Abraham

Bayern Munich Predicted Line-up: Neuer; Pavard, Boateng, Alaba, Davies; Kimmich, Thiago Alcantara; Koman, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski

Chelsea vs Bayern Munich Latest Odds

Despite home advantage, Chelsea are 3/1 (4.0) underdogs to win the first leg with bet365. The same price is available on the draw with Bayern a 5/6 (1.83) shot to take a lead back to the Allianz Arena in two weeks’ time. In terms of qualification, bet365 are 7/2 (4.50) that the Blues make it to the quarter-finals while it’s just 2/11 (1.18) about the German champions progressing.

Goals are certainly on the agenda. Both teams to score is just 4/7 (1.57) and that’s understandable given the attacking options on show. Over 2.5 goals is the same price and that’s a wager that has paid out in four of Chelsea’s last five games in all competitions.

Without Kante in midfield, Chelsea’s defence will be under serious pressure. Robert Lewandowski has 25 Bundesliga goals this term and already has 10 in this competition. He’s just 1/2 (1.50) to make his mark at Stamford Bridge and 21/10 (3.10) to score first.

Chelsea vs Bayern Munich Score Prediction

Chelsea will fancy their chances of making a breakthrough but it may not be enough to avoid defeat. Bayern’s attacking options are plentiful and while an emphatic victory may be beyond them in the first leg, a 2-1 win at 15/2 (8.50) looks worth chancing.

Chelsea vs Bayern Munich Betting Tip

Goals look the order of the day. Bayern have only kept one clean sheet in their last five games in all competitions while Chelsea haven’t shut out an opponent in seven matches. Combining both teams to score and over 2.5 goals selections pays 5/6 (1.83) and looks a solid wager. For a bigger price, take the visitors to win and BTTS at 11/5 (3.20) with bet365.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals and BTTS at 5/6 (1.83) with bet365
