Arsenal hoped that Unai Emery would be the best man to lead them after the departure of Arsene Wenger. The Spaniard struggled to make a real impact in though. As such, another change was made in North London. Emery was replaced by another Spanish boss in December 2019. Mikel Arteta made a return to the Emirates Stadium, this time in the dug-out.

Arteta will be keen to improve on his sides' fifth-place finish in the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Arsenal Injuries and Team News

Kieran Tierney

Injury: Dislocated shoulder

Potential return: 14/03/2020

Tierney has had an injury-plagued start to his Arsenal career. The full-back moved to the Emirates from Celtic for around £25 million. Since then though, he has been regularly sidelined, first through recovering from a hernia, then a hip injury. In early December Tierney suffered a dislocated shoulder against West Ham. The defender required surgery. This is expected to keep him out of action for around 3 months. He aims to be back in training by the end of February.

Calum Chambers

Injury: Ruptured ACL

Potential return: 29/08/2020

Chambers suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. The injury is a serious one. It required surgery and Chambers' recovery will rule him out of the rest of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Latest quote: “Calum has had a successful surgery. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between six and nine months.” – Jan 2nd, 2020 via Arsenal's website.

Sead Kolasinac

Injury: Shoulder injury

Potential return: TBC

Kolasinac was taken off injured against Everton having fallen awkwardly. The defender had only just returned from a spell on the side-lines so his absence is a bitter blow for Arteta. The full-back left the Emirates Stadium in a sling following the 3-2 win over the Toffees. The scale of the injury and potential recovery period is as yet unknown.
