Chelsea suffered their fifth home defeat of the season on Monday night when Manchester United beat them in controversial circumstances. Frank Lampard’s team must now put that out of their mind with a hugely important game against Tottenham on Saturday.
Spurs make the short trip to Chelsea on the back of three league wins in a row. They are currently only one point behind the Blues and could steal their fourth spot place with a win.

Chelsea vs Tottenham – The Form Guide
Chelsea have lost as many home games in the league this season as they did between January 2004 and November 2010. That is a remarkable stat. It means that Lampard’s team have lost fewer games on the road (4) than in front of their fans. Furthermore, they have picked up only six points in as many league games in 2020 and are no longer favourites to hold on to a Champions League spot.
Chelsea are on a poor run. In their last four, they have drawn twice and lost twice. Their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United would have been a tough one to swallow. The Blues had two goals chopped off by VAR and there was a contentious decision when VAR decided that Harry Maguire's kick-out did not warrant a red card.
On the other hand, Spurs have been registering some good wins and are starting to lay down a claim for fourth spot. After game week 12, the Lilywhites were 14th in the table and 12 behind their city rivals. Since then, they have managed to close the gap to a single point and in Chelsea’s current form look likely to leapfrog them.
In saying that, Tottenham’s injury list may hold them back. Jose Mourinho has said that the situation couldn’t be worse as his side are without their two top scorers. Son Heung-Min suffered a fractured arm in the 3-2 win over Villa at the weekend and Harry Kane remains out. Can someone step up and fill their boots?
What is the Team News?
Frank Lampard would have been devastated to see N’Golo Kante limp off in the loss to United. The world cup winner has endured an injury-hit season and his influence is a huge loss.
To add to that, top scorer Tammy Abraham is still fighting for fitness. The young English International missed out on Monday due to an ankle problem. He is expected to at least make the bench.
Christian Pulisic is set for a return soon for the home side. He has spent a few months on the sidelines now and could provide the creative spark the Blues have been missing.
Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Calum Hudson-Odoi are all ruled out.
Kane and Son have contributed 33 goals between for Spurs this season and both will be out of action for several weeks.
Moussa Sissoko will also miss out through injury leaving Mourinho short in the middle and upfront.
Erik Lamela is in contention for a return but remains a doubt.
Chelsea Predicted Line-up: Caballero; James, Zouma, Rudiger, Azpilicueta; Mount, Jorginho, Kovacic; Pedro, Batshuayi, Willian
Tottenham Predicted Line-up: Lloris; Tanganga, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Dier, Winks; Lamela, Alli, Bergwijn; Lucas Moura
Chelsea vs Tottenham Latest Odds
STS have Chelsea priced at 4/5 (1.8) while Spurs are available at 10/3 (4.33). Considering Chelsea’s poor home form these odds seem a little out. Chelsea will be expected to win; especially with Abraham and Pulisic pushing for returns but from a betting point of a view, the odds are too low to get behind.
Spurs are in a tricky spot in terms of forwards. This is perhaps why their odds are so high, but with the likes of Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, and Steven Bergwijn they are more than capable of scoring.
A draw might offer the most value and you feel that both sides would settle for one. You can get 29/10 (3.9) for that with STS, and it could be a decent bet.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Score Prediction
Abraham has provided 15 goals for Chelsea this season, nine more than Michy Batshuayi (6) the clubs' next top scorer. If he makes his return then Chelsea will be more dangerous and will have more chance of winning the game. Olivier Giroud came on against United, but the veteran striker is not one of Lampard’s preferred forwards.
Dele Alli is Spur's third top scorer (8), but he has scored half of what Son netted. Moura is close behind and big things are expected from Bergwijn. They will look to exploit Chelsea’s issues at the back with Willy Callabero expected to remain in goal ahead of £72m Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Both sides have scored 43 goals this season and we think it will be even Stevens after this game too.
A 1-1 draw at 6/1 (7.0) with STS is our correct score prediction.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Tip
If Son wasn’t injured, we probably would have backed Spurs to get the win here. Chelsea are having difficulty breaking teams down and without Abraham don’t have that goal-scoring touch at the moment. However Spurs now also find themselves extremely short in attack.
Hugo Lloris didn’t look comfortable in Tottenham's win over Villa. You could argue he was at fault for both the goals they gave away. Chelsea will be looking to test him and we think that it will be a fairly even contest with a couple of goals.
Both sides have to contend with tricky European ties ahead of this one too so it should be an even match-up.
