Manchester United claimed an impressive, if slightly lucky three points against Chelsea last time out in the league, and host Watford this weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s team are now only three points behind the Blues who are hanging on to fourth spot.

The Hornets are looking to do the double over their Northern rivals for the first time in their history after stunning United at Vicarage Road. If results go their way, Watford can pull themselves out of the relegation zone in what is a fascinating battle at the bottom.

Can United carry momentum into this one and get another three points? Check out our predictions here.

Manchester United vs Watford – The Form Guide

Following the short winter break, Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, albeit in controversial circumstances. Captain Harry Maguire appeared to kick-out at Michy Batshuayi in what looked to be a straight forward red however VAR decided it was not. Maguire then went onto score United’s second in a sucker punch to the hosts.

Nevertheless, all three points were taken back to Old Trafford. Remarkably, it was only the Red Devils 10th league win of the season. This is five less than they had won at the same stage last season. It was also their first win in four league games and they will certainly be expected to follow that up with another win on Sunday.

Watford’s run of decent results has come to a disappointing end. The Hornets have picked up only six points in their last five league games but they have given themselves a fighting chance of Premier League survival. They are undefeated in eight of their last eleven league games.

Nigel Pearson’s side have been playing some good football, and should have beaten Brighton in their recent 1-1 draw. The Hornets took the lead and should have killed the game off before being punished by a late equaliser. Watford have dropped 17 points from winning positions this season, and if they want to remain in the top league next season will have to improve on that.

What is the Team News?

Manchester United travel to Brussels on Thursday evening to take on Club Bruges. We expect to see a few different names on the team sheet with the likes of Sergio Romero normally preferred in goal for this competition.

Scott McTominay is unlikely to be fit in time for Thursday but is tipped to be available for Sunday’s match. This will be a great boost for the midfield.

World Cup winner Paul Pogba was expected to back this week but his return date has been pushed. He will not feature until next month.

Marcus Rashford remains out with a back injury leaving United a little short in attack. And at the back, Victor Lindelof is suffering from winter illness. The Swedish centre-half won’t play on Thursday but is likely to feature for the Watford match.

Star attacker Ismaila Sarr will under-go a late fitness test ahead of this match. He has been suffering from a thigh injury and is not guaranteed to feature.

Former United man Tom Cleverley will also take a late fitness test. He has been sidelined with an injury and isn’t yet match fit.

Kiko Femenia is another player that is in contention to make a return to the starting XI while Daryl Janmaat is ruled out.

Predicted Line-Ups

Manchester United Predicted Line-up: Romero, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Matic, Williams, Bruno Fernandes, James, Martial

Watford Predicted Line-up: Foster, Mariappa, Kabasele, Cathcart, Masina, Chalobah, Capoue, Pereya,, Doucoure, Deulofeu, Deeney

Manchester United vs Watford Latest Odds

Manchester United look like a better side with Bruno Fernandes in it. The Portuguese midfielder has brought a sense of urgency back to the team and his vision is creating opportunities. This will be a good match for him to further show his skills and Manchester United’s 3/5 (1.6) odds with Unibet will partly be to do with his performances.

Watford, of course, will be no pushover. They stunned United earlier in the season in a deserved 2-0 win. That victory served as the catalyst to their improved performances, and their odds of 5/1 (6.0) aren’t too unrealistic.

United and Watford have played out 17 draws between this season and Unibet have a draw here at an attractive 3/1 (4.0).

Manchester United vs Watford Score Prediction

Anthony Martial has been deployed in the striker role and hasn’t completely convinced. Youngster Mason Greenwood seems to show a more natural goal-scoring ability but the Frenchman is usually preferred ahead of him. In saying that, Martial has knocked in 13 this campaign, and provided five assists. He will certainly be a threat.

Despite conceding 40 goals in the league, Watford have the joint third-best clean sheet record in the league with eight. They have tightened up at the back and will make it difficult for United to break them down. Top scorer Troy Deeney only has five goals and Watford are the joint second-lowest scoring team in the competition.

With all of this in mind, we’re not predicting many goals. It will be tight contest, and one we think the home side will nick.

A 2-0 correct score for United with Unibet is available at 13/2 (7.5).

Manchester United vs Watford Tip

Manchester United are favourites to win, but they were also the favourites when they lost earlier in the season. Rashford is a big loss up front but with creativity coming through midfield, United look stronger than they did then.

Watford need points, and we expect them to play for the draw here as it would be a decent result with some tricky games coming up. The Hornets are capable of beating United, but we think the Manchester side will be too strong for them on this occasion.

Because we think there won’t be too many goals, and that United will win – we’re picking a home win and an under for our best bet.

Best bet: Manchester United to win and under 2.5 goals at 14/5 (3.85) with Unibet
