European Champions Liverpool take on an out-of-form Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night in the first leg of their last-16 tie. Atletico have been out of sorts lately and are currently only the third-best team in the Spanish capital.
In contrast, Liverpool have built up a 25 point gap at the top of the table, and are unbeaten in the league. They will be keen to build on that with a good result away in Madrid.

Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool – The Form Guide
The usually reliable Atletico Madrid are falling down La Liga and are hanging on to fourth spot. They find themselves out of the title race, 13 points behind city rivals Real, and have won only once in their last five league games. Perhaps the most telling stat is that they have scored less than half of Barcelona’s goal tally (57), having netted only 24 in 25 games.
In saying that, they are missing key players. £113 million wonder kid Joao Felix has endured a difficult season with injuries and he has been misfiring when fit. Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been out since November, and fellow former blue Alvaro Morata has also missed several games through injury.
The Reds have won a remarkable 25 of their 26 league games and have conceded only 15 goals all season. In fact, they have lost only twice all season, once in the EFL Cup with their u23 squad and once in the Champions League against Napoli.Since that defeat to Napoli, Liverpool haven’t looked back.
African player of the year Sadio Mane returned from injury at the weekend and pounced to make sure all three points headed safely back to Merseyside. It’s going to take something special from the Spaniards to stop this Liverpool side.
What is the Team News?
Costa remains out for Simeone but stoke partner Morata is highly likely to start. He came on as a substitute in Madrid's 2-2 draw with Valencia at the weekend. As the club's top scorer this season, he will be the danger man for the home side.
Englishman Kieran Trippier has been ruled out with a hip problem. The injury is expected to see him sidelined for up to six weeks so he could also miss out on the return leg.
Joao Felix will not be fit in time to take part with creative duties falling to captain Saul and Angel Correa.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have most of their squad available. Mane returned from injury as did Brazilan midfielder Fabinho.
A full-strength Liverpool side will likely include Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Mane. A terrifying prospect for any defence to deal with.
Atletico Madrid Predicted Line-up: Oblak; Arias, Savic, Gimenez, Lodi; Vitolo, Koke, Thomas, Saul; Morata, Correa
Liverpool Predicted Line-up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Latest Odds
Atletico are having a difficult season. Finishing in the top four of the league is now their priority as they were dumped out of the Copa Del Rey but third-tier side Cultural Leonesa. A good run in the Champions League could put a better spin on their campaign, but Liverpool would have been the last team they would want to meet.
The Reds travel to Spain as favourites to both qualify and win the first leg. Liverpool are priced at 5/4 (2.25) with BetRgal to win, which seems more than reasonable. Atletico are fairly big at 5/2 (3.5) but given their injury list and current form, it’s hard to get behind.
You could argue that Liverpool would settle for a score draw away from home, but that has not been their style this season. For that reason, the draw at 23/10 (3.35) with BetRegal isn’t hugely appealing.
Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Score Prediction
Jurgen Klopp’s side can’t stop scoring at the moment. In fact, the last time the senior team failed to score was back in September in their 2-0 loss to Napoli. The Reds have scored seven goals without reply in their last three league games, and top scorer Salah is approaching 20 for the season.
On the other hand, Atletico have scored and conceded three in their last three league games and top scorer Morata isn’t yet in double figures for the season (9).
With this in mind, we expect Liverpool to score. Therefore, we expected a relatively easy win for the away side.
A 2-0 win to Liverpool is available at 9/1 (10.0) with BetRegal is what we’d be looking to back.
Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Tip
Sadio Mane is sorely missed when he doesn’t play. The African playmaker causes all sorts of problems with his pace and vision, and will be looking to run riot in Madrid. Despite missing several games through injury he has racked up 14 goals and seven assists this season and will be key for the Reds on Tuesday night. He is 9/4 (3.25) to score anytime with BetRegal, and we think this looks like more than decent value.
However, we’re confident that the Reds will win with goalscorer’s throughout the team. We’re so confident that we’re not backing them at 5/4 (2.25), but with a a -1 handicap as our best bet.
