Chelsea vs Manchester United – The Form Guide

Chelsea are clinging onto fourth spot by the skin of their teeth. If the teams below hadn’t been in such bad form then they would surely have been pipped by now. They have 41 points from the opening 25 games; last season it was Manchester United in fourth after the same number of games but they had 10 points more.

The Blues have drawn back-to-back games against Arsenal and Leicester. Both games produced 2-2 score lines in which Chelsea scored first, this highlights Lampard’s problem. His side can score goals but lose concentration. Furthermore, the Blues are going through a sticky patch with £72 keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. He has made a series of errors and it is rumoured that Lampard wants him out.

Manchester United have been blowing hot and cold this season, but mostly cold. Every time they get some momentum going in their favour they stutter. The Red Devils have lost three of their last five, winning only once with a 4-0 victory over bottom of the table Norwich. Those four goals make up the total in their last five league games as they have failed to find the net in the other four.

As a result, United are eighth in the table and six behind Chelsea. Top scorer Marcus Rashford is clearly a big loss to United who are struggling to break down defences. Of course, there are issues at the other end too, but it’s their lack of creative spark that must be the biggest concern.

What is the Team News?

American Christian Pulisic is set to be available for Lampard following a lengthy lay-off. The youngster produced some excellent displays for the Blues early in the campaign including a hat trick against Burnley. However, his fitness may be a concern and he will likely have to settle for a place on the bench.

Tammy Abraham suffered an injury to his ankle and will be assessed closer to kick-off. He is expected to make it, but it's not guaranteed.

Mason Mount impressed against Leicester and may be deployed in the number 10 role again.

English forward Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains ruled out with injury.

In the red corner, Nemanja Matic is available after serving his one-match suspension and will likely be selected in the starting XI. In saying that, both Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are close to full fitness and could be surprise starters for United. Although the Frenchman may be rested further to ensure he is back to full-strength.

Marcus Rashford, of course, remains out, and Anthony Martial will lead the line for the away side.

Predicted Line-Ups

Chelsea Predicted Line-up: Kepa; James, Christensen, Rudiger, Azpilicueta; Kante, Jorginho; Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Willian; Abraham

Manchester United Predicted Line-up: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Fred; Pereira, Fernandes, James; Martial

Chelsea vs Manchester United Latest Odds

Despite the sides being in a similarly poor run of form, and the fact that Chelsea haven’t beaten United in five attempts, their odds of 4/5 (1.8) with MoPlay seem quite low. Furthermore, the Blues only have a 50% win rate at the bridge this campaign and have conceded 13 times in 12 home games. Therefore Manchester United’s odds of 63/20 (4.15) look a little more appealing from a betting point of view.

You will get 5.2 (3.5) at MoPlay and we think this holds the most value.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Score Prediction

In the reverse of this fixture on the opening day of the season, the Red Devils put four past the Blues. That match came under different circumstances however and Chelsea are more confident now than they were then – despite their current form.

Without Rashford, Manchester United don’t look as much of a threat. However, new signing Bruno Fernades looked sharp in United’s draw against Wolves. He could create a moment of magic and because of that, we think United will end their goal drought. Chelsea have a strong side to chose from here, and Tammy Abraham is always a threat, so we think that the home side will also get on the score sheet.

Neither side have been seeing out wins lately, so we’re going for a draw here. A 1-1 draw with MoPlay is currently priced at 26/5 (6.2) and is our pick.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Tip

It’s difficult to see one of these sides taking charge and claiming all three points. On the basis of the last few performances, we can see it being a fairly even match. Chelsea may be the more attacking side, but United could win the all-important midfield battle, especially if Pogba and McTominay return.

Neither side will want to lose this game, more so than they want to win it. With this in mind, our best bet we’re picking a score draw.

Best bet: Draw and both teams to score at 7/2 (4.5) with MoPlay
