Manchester City host West Ham on Sunday afternoon before heading into the winter break. The champions are a massive 22 points behind leaders Liverpool and energies are now focused on securing a Champions League spot and the Cup competitions.

In contrast, West Ham’s main ambition is Premier League survival. The London outfit find themselves in the drop zone, and desperately need to start winning with a tricky set of games ahead. They haven’t beaten City in five years, so a win here would be a huge boost.

Manchester City vs West Ham – The Form Guide

Pep Guardiola’s team have not competed with Liverpool this season. In fact, Pep has now lost six league games this season, his joint-worst ever in a single campaign as a manager. City have been beaten in games they were expected to walk and perhaps complacency has set in.

The Light Blues' latest defeat came last weekend when Spurs shocked them with a 2-0 victory. City had the lions share of play with 19 shots compared to Tottenham’s three, but couldn’t make it count. They haven’t been clinical enough this season, and it has really cost them.

West Ham started the new year with a bang, smashing four past Bournemouth on New Year’s Day. That result was tipped to be the turning point in their season, but things have fizzled out. The Hammers haven’t recorded a league win since then, suffering three defeats in their last five.

As a result of their lack of wins, West Ham have been pushed down to 18th in the table and involved in a relegation battle. Upcoming games against City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Wolves, and Spurs look ominous for David Moyes's side with a real turn in fortunes needed if they are to survive the drop.

What is the Team News?

Oleksandr Zinchenko is suspended following his red card against Spurs, but Pep should have adequate cover at the back.

There are question marks over Raheem Sterling’s fitness as the English International has complained of a thigh problem. He will undergo a late fitness test but looks set to sit this match out.

Benjamin Mendy and Aymeric Laporte are on the mend and could make appearances here.

Leroy Sane remains the only other absentee for City.

Moyes has to do without the services of both Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko.

Jack Wilshere underwent a hernia operation at the weekend, pushing back his return date – so won’t play a part here.

Predicted Line-Ups

Manchester City Predicted Line-up: Ederson; Cancelo, Garcia, Fernandinho, Mendy; Mahrez, Rodri, De Bruyne; Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero

West Ham Predicted Line-up: Fabianski, Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Anotonio, Fornals, Rice, Noble, Snodgrass, Haller

Manchester City vs West Ham Latest Odds

Manchester City have won nine of their last nine meetings with West Ham in all competitions. SportNation have them at a very short (1.09) 2/25 to make that 10 from 10. Perhaps, even more, telling is West Ham’s odds. They have about the biggest odds you’ll see all season at a massive 24/1 (25.0)with SportNation. It will have to take something special for that to come in.

The draw is also big at 10/1 (11.0), but given City’s dominance over the Hammers, we don’t feel it holds any value.

Manchester City vs West Ham Score Prediction

In their last three league meetings, City hold an aggregate score of 10-0 over their rivals. This is huge. Pep’s side will be hurting after another loss at the weekend and will want to pull away from Leicester in third who are only two points behind them.

West Ham can score goals, but it’s at the back where they have major problems. They threw away a two-goal lead against Brighton and looks too shaky at the back to keep City out.

With this in mind, we face City to run riot. We’re going for a generous 3-0 scoreline at 29/4 (8.25) with SportNation.

Manchester City vs West Ham Betting Tip

From a betting point of view, it’s hard to get behind City because you’d have to lay a lot to get a decent return. And of course, nothing is guaranteed in football. Similarly, backing West Ham would be a bit crazy under the circumstances.

Therefore we’re looking for markets that could hold value. Sergio Aguero has been getting amongst the goals again lately and is expected to start here. He is chasing current top scorer Jamie Vardy and will be hungry to score. Therefore our best bet is for him to score first.

Best bet: Sergio Aguero to score first at 7/4 (2.75) with SportNation
