Tottenham vs Manchester City Premier League Preview: Betting Tips, Team News & Predictions – 02/02/2020

Manchester City travel to London this weekend to take on Tottenham in the late kick-off on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s team turn their attention back to the league following a mid-week defeat in the EFL Cup to Manchester United.

Spurs held City to a 2-2 draw earlier in the campaign and a similar result would be considered decent for Jose Mourinho’s side. Three points, however, would see them climb the table and close the gap on Chelsea in fifth.

Will Mourinho go for the win? Check out our match predictions here.

Tottenham vs Manchester City – The Form Guide

Tottenham currently sit sixth in the table, joint on points with both Manchester United and Wolves. Those sides meet each other at the weekend so this match gives the lilywhites a chance to put a claim on fifth spot. Furthermore, a win could see them close the six-point gap on Chelsea who play Leicester in the early kick-off on Saturday.

Beating City however is easier said than done, especially considering Spurs form. The Londoners have won only once in six Premier League games and scraped by Norwich 2-1 last time out. Mourinho has yet to bring any names in during the window and the loss of Christian Eriksen may be felt.

Similarly, Manchester City are having a quiet transfer window. They have plenty of players to fill in positions and should be doing better than they are this season. In saying that, they are only five points worse off than they were at this stage last season. Runaway league leaders Liverpool are making the Cityzens look like a second rate team which of course they are not.

Pep has guided his side to a third successive EFL Cup final despite losing the second leg to United. They are amongst the favorites to win the Champions League and are in the running for the FA Cup. It would be a mistake to write them off and Spurs will have to be at their best come Sunday.

What is the Team News?

Harry Kane remains the biggest news around the Spurs dressing room. Mourinho is yet to bring another striker in with the deadline looming.

It was reported that they would make a big-money move for Krysof Piatek of AC Milan, but he is now undergoing a medical in Berlin ahead of a move to Hertha.

Olivier Giroud was another name on the rumour list for Spurs, but nothing has yet materialised. This means Spurs may line-up again without a recognised striker.

Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko are also sidelined.

Guardiola's early injury worries are starting to ease. Leroy Sane is close to a come back after several months out as is Aymeric Laporte. In fact, the French defender will be assessed closer to kick-off and may make an appearance.

Benjamin Mendi and Fernadinho will also be looked at closer to the game with slight injury concerns.

Predicted Line-Ups

Tottenham Predicted Line-up: Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Aurier, Sanchez, Lamela, Alli, Winks, Lo Celso, Moura, Son

Manchester City Predicted Line-up: Ederson; Cancelo, Garcia, Fernandinho, Zinchenko; Mahrez, Rodri, De Bruyne; Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero

Tottenham vs Manchester City Latest Odds

Spurs haven’t been able to take advantage of other sides' poor run of results, and have rarely put in excellent performances. Their goal difference for the season is +6 which is 20 less than it was after 24 games last season. With problems all over the park, it’s no surprise that SportNation have them priced at 9/2 (5.5) to get the win, despite home advantage.

Manchester City will go off at around 4/7 (1.57) while the draw at SportNation is 33/10 (4.4).

Tottenham vs Manchester City Score Prediction

Sergio Aguero is back on form and is now only one shy of the league top scorer Jamie Vardy with 16 Premier League goals. Aside from his goals, Manchester City are the league's top scorers with 65. They have outscored Spurs in the opening games by a massive 27 goals.

On top of that, Spurs have the joint-worst clean sheet record with only three all season. On that basis, we’re expecting the visitors to hit the back of the net a few times.

If Spurs do not bring in a striker it will be up to midfielders to get on the score sheet again. Dele Alli, Son, and Lucas Moura have been scoring but it’s more difficult to do so with a midfield battle to win.

With this in mind, we’re backing City for the win. A 3-1 scoreline at SportNation is currently priced at 19/2 (10.5).

Tottenham vs Manchester City Betting Tip

It’s hard to see how Tottenham can pull a win off in this match. It is possible as seen with Manchester United defeating City on Wednesday night, albeit in slightly odd circumstances. Pep played several of his players out of position in a move that backfired. He is likely to revert to his tried and tested style on Sunday which spells trouble for Spurs.

City have won five of the clubs' last seven meetings and we expect them to extend that to six in eight.

It could be a tough day in the office for the Spurs players, we’re picking City to win by two goals.

Best bet: Manchester City to win by two goals at 4/1 (5.0) with SportNation
