Tuesday night throws up a London derby with Chelsea hosting Arsenal. Neither of these sides have been in very good form of late, with Arsenal particularly struggling down in 10th in the table.
In saying that, the Gunners have looked a little sharper under new boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league, especially at home. So there is hope for an away win.
A tight encounter is expected with both looking to avoid defeat. Will they share the spoils? Check out our big match preview including our best bet here.

Chelsea vs Arsenal – The Form Guide
Frank Lampard’s side remain in fourth spot despite picking up only 13 points from their last 11 league games. In fact, Chelsea have won just four of those 11 games, losing six in the same period. This includes the shock 1-0 defeat away to Newcastle last time out despite dominating the Magpies for the entire 90 minutes.
There is no denying that Lampard is doing a decent job, but must get his team playing consistently well. They took 19 shots against Newcastle and managed to find the target only four times, not really testing the goalkeeper. Previous to that they put three away at home against Burnley. When they take their chances they are very good, but it’s not something they seems to be able to do, week-in-week-out.
Arsenal are another team who have been guilty of not being clinical enough in front of goal. In contrast to Chelsea however, they have yet to prove that they can be a top-four side. Improvements have been made since former club captain Arteta stepped in, but more is needed.
The Gunners have 11 draws from 23 games so far – the most in the league. And with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out through suspension, it’s hard to see where the red side of London’s killer instinct will come from. The Gabonese striker is by far the clubs top scorer with 14 goals this season, nine more than next-best Alexandre Lacazette. Arteta will be hoping the Frenchman steps us his game for this one.
What is the Team News?
Youngster Reece James sadly picked up an ankle injury after starting to get a run in the first team. He has been ruled out for Lampard with Emerson likely to take his place.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will also miss out through injury as will American Christian Pulisic.
Long-term absentee Marco van Ginkel is working his way to fitness while Marcos Alonso is also ruled out.
The big problem for Gunners fans is of course that Aubameyang remains out until the start of February following his red card.
Also unavailable for Arsenal are Kieran Tierney, Calum Chambers, Sean Kolasinac, and Reiss Nelson. This leaves Arsenal short at the back, with Sokratis also a doubt. It will be interesting to see how Arteta lines up.
Chelsea Predicted Line-up: Kepa, Rudiger, Christensen, Emerson, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, Mount, Abraham, Willian, Hudson-Odoi.
Arsenal Predicted Line-up: Leno; Mustafi, Luiz, Holding, Maitland-Niles; Xhaka, Guendouzi; Saka, Ozil, Pepe; Lacazette
Chelsea vs Arsenal Latest Odds
Interestingly, Arsenal are unbeaten in six away games and have lost only once on their travels since mid-October. Despite Chelsea’s superior league position, their home form has been poor. The Blues were beaten on their own patch by Southampton and Bournemouth last month and have scored only 14 goals in front of their home fans.
With this in mind, it’s difficult to get behind the 3/4 (1.75) offered by Betway for a home win. Arsenal are equally unappealing at 100/30 (4.33), but the draw at Betway is priced at 3/1 (4.0). On balance, they draw appears to offer the most value from a betting point of view.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Score Prediction
As mentioned, Chelsea can be a little goal-shy at home, therefore, we’re not expecting a goal-fest. Arsenal without Aubameyang, are looking a bit toothless but in saying that, they have only scored nine goals less than their city rivals.
Because of this, we’re looking at a low scoring draw, or a sneaky home win. 0-0 is looking decent at 12/1 (13.0) with Betway. In saying that Arsenal can switch off at the back, meaning Chelsea could nick it. A 1-0 home win at 15/2 (8.5) also catches the eye.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Betting Tip
At this stage last season, Arsenal were 18 goals better off than this year and had 15 points more. That is a huge difference and it’s clear that the Gunners haven’t been firing all cylinders this season. Chelsea, despite being fourth are also worse off than the same stage last campaign. They have found the net on fewer occasions’ and are eight points below where they were last January.
The two giants don’t have a great deal of confidence at the moment, and that usually indicates a low scoring affair. Because we can’t trust either side to put in a match-winning performance, a draw could be the way to go. However, for our best bet, we’re picking a low scoring outcome.
