Norwich vs Bournemouth – The Form Guide
The Canaries haven’t won in the league since the end of November when they beat Marco Silva’s struggling Everton. That win was only their third of the season. Since then they have gone on to claim only four more points from eight games. Norwich are rooted to the bottom of the table on only 14 points and need an escape route – fast!
Manchester United eased passed Norwich last weekend with an emphatic 4-0 win. They were dominated by the Red Devils and the four goals only added to their dismal defensive record. Norwich have conceded 45 times – the worst in the league and they also have the third-lowest goals tally with 22.
The only glimmer of hope for Daniel Farke’s side heading into this one is that opponents Bournemouth boast an even worse goal tally. They are the leagues lowest scorers, joint with Watford on 20. The Cherries have failed to score in three Premier League games in a row and have netted only twice in their last eight.
Eddie Howe has a six-point cushion over the basement club at the moment and is only two from safety. His side are seven points behind where they were at the same stage last season, and with such fine margins in the league, this is really hurting them. Bournemouth need to find their shooting boots to avoid a relegation scrap.
What is the Team News?
Norwich fans will be hoping that top scorer Teemu Pukki will have overcome his thigh injury in time to take part. He has missed the last three games, and his absence has been felt.
Defender Grant Hanley has been suffering with a bug this week and is also a doubt for the home side.
Ben Godfrey is very unlikely to take part while Josip Drmic and Timm Klose are both definitely ruled out.
It will be interesting to see if Farke fields new signing Lukas Rupp from Hoffenheim.
As far as injury lists go, Bournemouth have one of the longest you’re likely to see. Howe remains with Josh King, Jack Stacey, Arnaut Groeneveld, Junior Stanislas, Charlie Daniels, David Brooks, and Chris Mepham. All of whom would be considered first team, or bench selections.
Lloyd Kelly, Aaron Ramsfale and Jefferson Lerma are also serious doubts.
Norwich Predicted line-up: Krul, Aarons, Zimmerman, Lewis, Byram, Tettey, Rupp, Vrancic, McLean, Cantwell, Pukki
Bournemouth Predicted line-up: Travers, Smith, Francis, Cook, Ake, Wilson, Gosling, Billing, Fraser, Wilson, Solanke
Norwich vs Bournemouth Latest Odds
Bournemouth’s lack of goals is a real concern. Without goals, you can’t win games and with Norwich the more likely to find the net, they are favourites to claim all three points on Saturday. Paddy Power has the Canaries at EVS (2.0) for the win, and this could be a decent bit of value given their opponent's troubles.
It’s difficult to consider the Cherries for the win, even with decent odds of 11/5 (3.2) with Paddy Power against the club at the bottom of the table. A draw wouldn’t really suit either, although Eddie Howe would be the happier of the managers if this was the outcome. You’ll get 5/2 (3.5) for the draw at Paddy Power.
Norwich vs Bournemouth Score Prediction
Finnish international Teemu Pukki is Norwich’s top scorer with nine to his name, with Todd Cantwell not far off with six. Apart from these two, no other player has scored more than once for the club this season. The scoreline could, therefore, depend on Pukki’s involvement.
For the Cherries, Harry Wilson is the clubs highest scorer with six which is a decent haul for the youngster. However, only seven other players have found the net and four of those have only scored once. Callum Wilson bagged 14 last season but has only managed five thus far.
Because neither of these sides are prolific scorers and have leaky defences we can see goals, but not many of them. Pukki looks set for a return and with fresh legs in the form of Rupp joining the ranks, we think Norwich will win.
Norwich vs Bournemouth Betting Tip
It’s not got the makings of a classic, but it could define one of these sides season. Should Norwich lose, it would be very difficult to make up the ground, although there is plenty of football still to be played. If they win, it could be the catalyst for them to go a decent run and save themselves from relegation.
If Bournemouth lose, they may still be able to recover but with it would be a huge knock to their confidence. Howe is hanging on to his job, and this result could see him go.
Norwich have more get up and go about them and have been unlucky with recent results. The Cherries, on the other hand, seem to be lacking creativity and cutting edge in front of goal.
With this in mind, we are going with a home win, and for Norwich to score without reply.
