Tottenham vs Liverpool – The Form Guide
Spurs have been inconsistent under Mourinho thus far. Things started off so well for the Portuguese manager before the cracks started to show. The Lilywhites have managed only two wins in their last five games and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven. That isn’t a huge surprise however as they have managed only two all season – the joint worst in the league with bottom of the table Norwich.
The Londoners are having a shocking season so far. They have won only eight of their opening 21 games – half of what they had achieved at this stage last season. If they want to push on for a top-four finish, they will need to improve and quickly.
In complete contrast, Liverpool are flying. The Reds look unstoppable this season and are being touted as the next invincible team. It’s hard to argue as they have won an incredible 19 of their 20 league games and drew the other. They have a massive 13 point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand.
On top of winning so often, Liverpool have also tightened ship at the back. In their last 10 games, they have managed to keep eight clean sheets and are increasingly difficult to break down. Furthermore, their 1-0 win over Everton in the FA Cup mid-week was with a heavily rotated side, featuring many academy players. There is a great depth in the squad, and Klopp will not be too worried about his growing injury list.
What is the Team News?
Both sides have been hit with injuries in recent weeks, with Spurs perhaps coming off worse.
Mourinho lost Harry Kane to a hamstring injury leaving him without his main striker. The England captain is expected to be out for at least eight weeks – possibly more.
Moussa Sissoko has been one of Spurs' best midfielder this season, he picked up what was a rumoured knock – but has now been ruled out until April.
There is also a concern over Harry Winks fitness heading into this one after taking a sore one on the ankle against Middlesbrough. On top of that, Tanguy Ndombele who has also been a stand-out for the London side this season may also be sidelined.
Ben Davies, Danny Rose, and keeper Hugo Lloris are the long-term absentees for Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp also has a bit of a headache. Utility man James Milner came off injured after on nine minutes in Liverpool's derby win in the FA Cup.
In midfield, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho are also ruled out.
Defenders Joel Matip and Dejan Lovern are working their way back to fitness but are not expected to make this match.
Tottenham Predicted line-up: Gazzaniga, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Aurier, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Alli, Eriksen, Dier, Moura, Son
Liverpool Predicted line-up: Alisson, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Henderson, Firmino, Mane, Salah
Tottenham vs Liverpool Latest Odds
Liverpool have dropped points only once this season, and are playing like a team that knows they will win. They are currently priced at (1.7) to take all three points back from London with Betway, and we see that as value. The Reds are unbeaten and have a stronger squad than Spurs, who may well be playing without a recognised striker. Spurs have been given odds of 10/3 (4.33) to win with Betway.
We expect Spurs to start with four at the back, including Davinson Sanchez. Therefore, it is up to Liverpool to break down a packed defence. It will be an ask, but we think with their talents they will score. So the draw at 10/3 (4.33) isn’t too appealing.
Tottenham vs Liverpool Score Prediction
Liverpool score goals. They have Mohamed Salah and African player of the year Sadio Mane to call on, as well as Brazilian Roberto Firmino. These three are arguably the most feared front line in football at the moment. At the back, Alisson is in terrific form between the sticks and we know how good the Reds defenders are. Spurs will have to create something special to nab even a goal. Which we don’t see them doing without the services of Harry Kane.
Bearing this in mind, we’re looking for correct scores in which Liverpool win to nil. 2-0 to Liverpool looks the most attractive at 8/1 (9.0) with Betway.
Tottenham vs Liverpool Betting Tip
Spurs will do well to get a hold of the ball in this game. Liverpool rested most of their first-choice XI mid-week and will come into this match refreshed. Their pace from the back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson coming from the wings will spread the play wide and Spurs will struggle to cope.
On the flip-side, Spurs will likely sit back and try to frustrate the league leaders. It may not be a classic win, but we can see Liverpool managing to break them down.
Because of all of the above we’re tipping a Liverpool to win by scoring without reply.
Best bet: Liverpool to win and both teams to score NO at 23/10 (3.3) with Betway
