Jose Mourinho hosts his former club on Sunday as Spurs take on Chelsea. There is no love lost between the ‘Special One’ and the Blues fans who once worshipped their leader. We’re expecting a fiery London derby with plenty of fireworks.

Frank Lampard takes his youthful Chelsea side into the game on a poor run of form. Because of bad results, Spurs are now hot on his heels in the league. A win could see them leapfrog Chelsea who were 12 points ahead only a few weeks ago.

Tottenham vs Chelsea – The Form Guide

Since taking over, Mourinho has led Spurs to four wins from five Premier League games. Giving him more wins that his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino managed in the previous 12. Goals have been coming thick and fast for the Lilywhites, having scored at least once in every game with Mourinho in charge.

Spurs now find themselves back in the favourites to land a top-four finish and are showing real character. A 2-1 win over Wolves at Molineux last weekend was a statement, showing that the Tottenham side we’ve come to know over the past few seasons is back.

In stark contrast, cracks are beginning to show at Chelsea. Lampard has been credited with doing a great job this season, and by beating Crystal Palace in early November, he recorded six Premier League wins in a row. But things have changed in recent weeks. Since that victory, they have lost four of five league games.

Those losses came to teams that Chelsea were expected to beat. West Ham shocked them before an even more shocking 3-1 loss to struggling Everton. And for the cherry on top, Bournemouth sneaked a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Chelsea are lacking creativity, despite holding the bulk of possession they haven't made opponents pay. They need to find a way to break down teams again if they want to keep hold of fourth spot.

What is the Team News?

There are few injury concerns for Mourinho. Tanguy Ndombele, who is arguably one of the better midfielders at the club is sidelined with a groin problem. He is expected back before the new year, but a major doubt for the derby.

Ben Davies, Michel Vorm ad Erik Lamela are all ruled out through injury. While Hugo Lloris is still getting over an elbow fracture.

Harry Winks is back after injury and could be preferred to Eric Dier in the middle.

It will be interesting to see who Mourinho picks for his central midfielders, as he has been tinkering with them since joining.

In the other corner, Lampard has to do without Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is suffering from a ruptured Achilles.

Fikayo Tomori will not be fit in time, although is back in training.

French International Oliver Giroud is also a major doubt having hurt his ankle.

Marco van Ginkel is the only long-term absentee but is looking set for a comeback in the near future.

Ross Barkley has fallen out of favour lately, so it’s not clear if he will play a part on Sunday, despite being fit.

Meanwhile American Christian Pulisic, Willian and Jorginho were all substituted off in the Bournemouth defeat which raised a few eyebrows. Lampard has confirmed those were for tactical reasons, and are available for selection.

Predicted Line-Ups

Tottenham Predicted line-up: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sissoko, Winks, Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, Son, Kane

Chelsea Predicted line-up: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Zouma, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Pulisic, Abraham

Tottenham vs Chelsea Latest Odds

Spurs are a tempting 7/5 (2.4) to win with SportNation. Going on recent form, we would have expected that to be a little shorter around 6/5 (2.2). The visitors are priced at 7/4 (2.75) to take all three points, while the draw is 13/5 (3.6) with SportNation.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Score Prediction

The home side have managed to keep seven clean sheets in their last 20 league games when playing at their own ground. In saying that, their last home game against Burnley was only their second clean sheet of the season. Spurs have been better going forward lately though, and we’d expect them to score in front of their fans.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have found the net, once or less in 11 of their last 20 away league games. They will be desperate to maintain their spot in the table though, so we think they will grab a goal here.

With this in mind, we’re picking a result in which both teams score. A 2-1 scoreline in favour of Tottenham at 9/1 (10.0) with SportNation is our pick.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Betting Tip

Despite Spurs being favourites here, it’s always hard to call when these two sides meet; regardless of the circumstances. It’s the blue side of London who have been enjoying victories in their last two meetings, once in the league and once in the league cup. Spurs, however, had won the previous three.

Son Heung-Min is enjoying a great run of form, as are fellow midfielder’s Lucas Moura and Delle Alli. You expect one of these to score if Harry Kane doesn’t find the back of the net.

Chelsea frontman Tammy Abraham has only scored twice in his last six, but a return to form is on the cards. Similarly to Spurs, Chelsea can also rely on midfielders getting in on the goals with Pulisic and Mount both in decent form.

Because it should be a tight encounter, it could go either way. In saying that, we’re leaning towards a home win, and expect both teams to score at least once.

Best bet: Spurs to win and both teams to score at (3.65) 53/20 with SportNation
