Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley Premier League Preview, Betting Tips, Team News & Predictions – 07/12/19

Jose Mourinho tasted defeat for the first time as Tottenham Manager on Wednesday. If that wasn’t bad enough, it was also away to his former club Manchester United. Spurs now host Burnley in a match in which they would expect to bounce back to winning ways.

Burnley put in one of their poorest performances of the season against Manchester City on Tuesday in a 4-1 loss. They have suffered back-to-back league defeats and will keen to avoid falling into a slump with another loss here.

Can Mourinho lift his team and win? Check out where we see the value in the betting and find out our best bet.

Tottenham vs Burnley – The Form Guide

Mourinho didn’t get his dream return to Old Trafford with his side losing 2-1, and deservedly so. This was the first time under his reign that we saw the Spurs team that have struggled with results all season. Captain Harry Kane’s poor show epitomising the team performance. Spurs have now lost a third of their opening 15 games, and sit nine points below 4th placed, Chelsea.

Spurs have improved under Mourinho though. He fielded an attacking line-up against United showing he has belief in his attackers. Dele Alli has been in inspired form and scored another peach of a goal on Wednesday. He is definitely one to watch for this match.

Burnley find themselves only two points worse off than their London rivals. Impressively, they have double the points the did at this stage last season. They have been scoring goals with 21 after 15 games and will be a threat to Spurs, especially from set-pieces. Nick Pope despite letting in four mid-week has been a stand-out for Burnley. The keeper has an impressive five clean sheets so far and will be hard to beat.

The trouble with Sean Dyche team, however, is consistency. The Clarets not only have had mixed results but mixed performances. They were simply not good enough against Manchester City, albeit the champions were in the mood. A 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace the week before also showed their weaknesses at the back. Something Spurs attackers will be keen to exploit.

What is the Team News?

Dele Alli will the first name on the team sheet we suspect following another great display.

Mourinho may look to shake things up in the middle and back with some of his players failing to make an impact.

Hugo Lloris won’t be returning anytime soon for Mourinho. Understudy Paulo Gazzaniga was at fault for United’s first goal but redeemed himself with a number of good saves.

Erik Lamela and Michel Vorm are not yet fit enough to play following lengthy lay-offs through injury.

Charlie Taylor is a major doubt for Sean Dyche, which is considered a serious blow. He picked up an injury against Manchester City.

Ashley Westwood is another player who is a doubt but Burnley are hopeful he will make it. While Johann Berg Gudmundsson remains out with an injury.

Erik Pieters could, however, be fit again having missed the City game with a knock.

Predicted Line-Ups

Tottenham Predicted line-up: Gazzaniga; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose; Eriksen, Winks, Alli; Lucas, Son; Kane

Burnley Predicted line-up: Pope; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil; Barnes, Wood

Tottenham vs Burnley Latest Odds

Spurs lead the betting at 2/5 (1.4) for the win with Betfair. The Lilywhites have a pretty solid record against Burnley, despite losing 2-1 the last time these sides met. Burnley are 7/1 (8.0) to make it two wins in a row against Spurs and the draw is 15/4 (4.75).

Tottenham vs Burnley Score Prediction

Despite having four more clean sheets, Burnley have conceded one goal more than Spurs. Burnley have scored 14 times in their five clean sheet performances, and their attackers will certainly be a worry for Mourinho.

Spurs themselves have also been finding the net although not always getting results.

It’s always a tight affair when these two meet, and we expect another one on Saturday. We think this game will be decided by a single goal, and are going in favour of Mourinho getting back to winning ways.

We’re going for Spurs to win 2-1 at 13/2 (7.5) at Betfair.

Tottenham vs Burnley Betting Tip

There are no easy games in the Premier League, as Mourinho knows too well. With the squad he has at Spurs, he really ought to be winning here. Harry Kane hasn’t really been able to get going this season and will be disappointed with only seven goals to his name. We expect him to start finding the net more often soon. He is currently 5/2 (3.5) to open the scoring, and this could be a decent shout.

Burnley’s last two performances have been poor. They were well beaten by Palace and City, not showing enough going forward. We think they will try to keep it tight at the back but as a result, may struggle to get out of their own half.

For those reasons, we’re looking at Tottenham to win markets. We fancy Kane to open the scoring, and Spurs to win so we’ll go for the wincast. Kane to score first and Spurs to win at 16/5 (4.2).

Best bet: Kane to score first and Spurs to win at 16/5 (4.2) with Betfair.
