It has been a tale of two cities this season as high-flying Liverpool host a dejected Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the year. The Reds sit comfortably at the top of the table, eight clear of Leicester and look to extend their winning run in the league to six.
On the other hand, Everton are fighting to get away from the relegation zone. Their 2-1 defeat at the weekend condemned the Toffees to their seventh defeat in 10 games. Anything but a victory here will likely see boss Marco Silva gone.

Liverpool vs Everton – The Form Guide
There’s not much to say about Liverpool that’s not been said already this season. The Reds, although not in fantastic form have been grinding out results. It took two first-half goals from Virgil Van Dijk to claim all three points against Brighton at the weekend in a game that ended 2-1. Incidentally, that is the seventh time in 14 games that Liverpool have won by that scoreline.
In saying that they haven’t been playing well, we mean only by their high standards. Sadio Mane has been a class performer all season, and there is no denying they have the best wing-backs in the country with Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds are unbeaten this season, having dropped points only once in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United. This could be a tough day for Everton fans.
In contrast, the Toffees have been struggling. The team doesn’t seem to be clicking and players are obviously very low in confidence. When you’re down, things tend to go against you. Marco Silva’s team played well at Leicester last weekend and deservedly took the lead. Leicester leveled before scoring a controversial goal in the 94th minute to claim all three points. This means that Silva is likely now relying on getting a result against the league leaders, and current European champions to keep his job.
Before that match, however, Everton hadn’t been anywhere as good as they should have been. With eight defeats already, shows just how poor they have been. However, there are glimpses of hope with Brazilian Richarlison their biggest threat.
What is the Team News?
Goalkeeper Alisson got himself sent off against Brighton at the weekend following a moment of madness. Adrian will, therefore, start in goal. This won’t fill Reds fans with confidence given his nervy performance after coming off the bench.
Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp's ‘Dyson’ in midfield is ruled out with injury. The Brazilian international picked up a knock against Napoli and is set for a good few weeks on the sideline.
Joel Matip and Nathaniel Clyne are Liverpool’s only other injury concerns.
The blue side of the Mersey have a few injury concerns too.
Andre Gomes remains out following surgery, while Seamus Coleman and Cuco Martina are also unavailable through injury.
Fabian Delph is a doubt but will be given an assessment closer to kick-off to decide if he’s fit enough to play. Similarly, Theo Walcott could return after shaking off a knock he picked up.
Liverpool Predicted line-up: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Everton Predicted line-up: Pickford; Digne, Holgate, Mina, Sidibe; Davies, Schneiderlin; Walcott, Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin
Liverpool vs Everton Latest Odds
From a betting point of view, it’s almost unthinkable to back Everton for this game. Although, stranger things have happened. SportNation have Liverpool at odds of 5/13 (1.38) to get the job done, while Everton are actually looking relatively short at 15/2 (8.5).
If you think the Toffees could lift themselves for the big occasion and steal a point from their city rivals, you can get 4/1 (5.0) with SportNation.
Liverpool vs Everton Score Prediction
This could be the game that ends Silva’s reign as Everton manager, but will his side put up a decent fight? We’re not so sure they will. Liverpool will likely dominate here. Following a few unconvincing wins, they could push for several goals here. Mohamed Salah will be keen to add to his six goals and could find a bit of form now that he is back to full fitness.
We can’t see Everton taking any points off the league leaders here, and we fancy The Reds to get a few. SportNation have a 3-0 exact score at 19/2 (10.5) and that’s what we fancy here.
Liverpool vs Everton Betting Tip
Klopp will likely maintain his eight-point gap at the top by collecting three points in what we expect to be a one-sided derby. Everton have managed to get claim three draws in the sides last five meetings, but haven’t beaten the Reds at Anfield in twenty years.
Unfortunately for Toffees fans, and for Marco Silva – Liverpool are expected to win this game at a canter.
Our top tip for the game is, therefore, Liverpool to win with a -2 handicap at 14/5 (3.8).
