Chelsea vs Aston Villa Premier League Preview, Betting Tips, Team News & Predictions – 04/12/19

Chelsea suffered their first home defeat to West Ham for the first time in 17 years on Saturday following a 1-0 defeat. The blues will be keen to get back to winning ways having lost two league games in a row.

A resurgent Aston Villa will, however, give Frank Lampard’s team a run for their money. Unlike their London rivals, the Villains have picked up four points from their last two league outings.

This could be a very interesting game. Find out where we see the betting value.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa – The Form Guide

Chelsea won six successive Premier League fixtures and were on electric form. They came back to draw 4-4 with Ajax in an enthralling Champions League game and were looking like dark horses in the title race. Their terrific form, however, came to an abrupt end. Lampard’s men have now lost back to back games, to West Ham and to Manchester City.

In saying that Chelsea are a good side. They were unlucky not to get a point, or possibly more from the West Ham game with Christian Pulisic coming close on two occasions. In fact, the American really ought to have buried at least one of his chances. The blues are still able to reach the knock-out rounds of the Champions League and sit comfortably in the top four of the table, six ahead of Spurs.

Aston Villa have been playing some great football since their return to the Premier League, but haven’t been getting results. The Villians are 15th in the table, on 15 points after 14 games. Prior to beating Newcastle, and drawing with Manchester United, Villa had lost three on the bounce. Albeit those games were against Manchester City, Liverpool and away to Wolves.

Jack Grealish has been a stand-out for the newly-promoted side, and as well as playing well, he’s been scoring. There is talk of him playing his way back into the England squad and on his current form, it’s not hard to see why.

What is the Team News?

The biggest story coming out of the camps is that Tammy Abraham looks set for a return. The young English striker bagged 25 goals last year while on loan to Wednesday’s rivals and will be a big boost to Lampard if he makes it.

Callum Hudson-Odoi also made a return as a substitute last weekend giving the Chelsea boss further attacking options

Aside from that, Lampard is only without Ruben-Loftus Cheek and Antonio Rudiger who remain sidelined through injury. The pair are expected back in mid-December.

On the other bench, Dean Smith has almost a fully fit squad.

Stand-in keeper Jed Steer looks like he could be back on the bench. He is unlikely to remove first choice keeper Tom Heaton from the sticks anytime soon, as he has been in excellent form.

Bjorn Engels made the bench against United following an injury lay-off and could well start there again.

Predicted Line-Ups

Chelsea Predicted line-up: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Mount; Willian, Abraham, Pulisic.

Aston Villa Predicted line-up: Heaton, Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Hourihane, Douglas, El-Ghazi, Grealish, Wesley

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Latest Odds

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Score Prediction

Tammy Abraham could be the difference in what we expect to be a close encounter. His pace and finishing were sorely missed by Chelsea against West Ham. In fact, the blues had 19 attempts on goal without managing to score. We would expect them to make up for that, by getting a couple of goals here.

Villa, as we said have been putting in good performances, but performances haven’t been translated to points. Because they are in good form, however, and that Chelsea can switch off at the back, we also fancy them to score.

Bearing this in mind, we’re tipping a 2-1 correct score for Chelsea at (8.5) with Unibet

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Betting Tip

This match, of course, has a few personal connections. Frank Lampard is up against the team that denied his Derby side a place in the Premier League in the playoffs last season. Furthermore, Tammy Abraham was their main talisman, leading Villa to promotion. On top of that, in the away dugout is Chelsea legend and good friend to Lampard, John Terry.

This game has a bit of an edge to it, and we’re expecting a fiery encounter. Chelsea need to bounce back to avoid falling into a slump. They have been unlucky to not have taken any points from their last two games and with Abraham back, we think they’ll beat Villa.

For those reasons, our top tip for the match is Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 6/4 (2.5)

Best bet: Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 6/4 (2.5) with Unibet
