Manchester City make the short trip to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening to take on Burnely. The Citizens know that another slip-up here may just be the final nail in their title race coffin. Pep Guardiola’s team were held to a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle making three points here is essential.
Burnley have been inconsistent this season with some mesmerising performances outweighed by poor ones. The Clarets come into this on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace but will fancy their chances at holding on to at least one point against the champions.

Burnley vs Manchester City – The Form Guide
The Clarets fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss here on Sunday to Crystal Palace. This was, however, following back-to-back 3-0 league victories. Burnley have only been outscored this season (20) by the current top four and Spurs. Big forwards Chris Woods and Ashley Barnes come into this game on form.
In saying that, Sean Dyche’s side have been beaten by Leicester, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. But they have shown they have the quality to challenge the big boys.
Despite losing to Palace, the Clarets made 15 attempts at goal. Had they been more clinical they could have got something out of the game. Turf Moor was once a fortress for them, and with four of their five Premier League wins coming at home this season, could be starting to become one again.
While a match against the current league champions isn’t ideal game to try to get back to winning ways, Dyche must fancy his chances against an underperforming Manchester City side. Few would have predicted them to be 11 points off the pace after only 14 league games, having won only nine of their opening 14 games.
City are having problems at the back, albeit they are without several players through injury. They have conceded 16 times with six in their last three Premier League games. Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle will be seen as more points dropped that they really shouldn’t have, and could be viewed as the end of their league challenge.
What is the Team News?
Ashely Westwood will likely be back in the fray for Burnley, returning from suspension.
Danny Drinkwater and Matej Vydra are working their way back to fitness and are expected to be available for selection on Tuesday.
While Johann Very Gudmundsson also looks likely to return to action having been sidelined with a rib injury sustained in October.
Left-back Charlie Taylor was taken off after only half an hour against Palace with a hamstring problem, so he will also likely miss out.
Guardiola’s injury list remains fairly extensive.
Sergio Aguero won’t be fit in time for this fixture, while long-term absentees Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte are out until the new year.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is recovering well but isn’t expected to feature just yet.
Fernadinho has been holding down a centre-back role while Pep’s first-pick defenders recover.
Burnley Predicted line-up: Pope; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil; Wood, Barnes
Manchester City Predicted line-up: Ederson; Cancelo, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Mendy; De Bruyne, Rodri, D Silva; Bernardo, Jesus, Sterling
Burnley vs Manchester City Latest Odds
Manchester City have won seven of their last eight encounters and are favourites to extend that to eight in nine at 2/9 (1.22). Bet365 have the home team at 12/1 (13.00) to win, with the draw also priced quite high at 11/2 (6.5).
Burnley vs Manchester City Score Prediction
Punters looking for decent odds on correct score markets would be wise to look at those in which both teams score. Manchester City have failed to score only once this season, and Burnley only on three occasions. The Clarets strikers are in good form, and we know how impressive City can be going forward. The Citizens are the leagues highest scorers with 39 goals and should extend that on Tuesday.
Burnley vs Manchester City Betting Tip
Both these sides have suffered from inconsistency this season and it has cost them both. Manchester City have almost the same squad as they did to win the league last season but haven’t been able to put a run of good performances together. Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne have been stand-outs for them and will likely be in the thick of it on Tuesday.
Burnley are still in the top ten (just!) but with three losses in their last five Premier League games are vulnerable to the City attack. Even without record scorer Aguero, City are free-scoring and we fancy them to win by a couple of goals.
Because of this, we’re tipping City for the win. Since they are too short to pick at 2/9 (1.22) we’re going with them to win by 2 goals at 10/3 (4.33) with bet365.
