Manchester United host Aston Villa early on Sunday evening at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is in much need of a win following poor results both domestically and in Europe. The Red Devils have games against Spurs and City coming up, so really need all three points here.
However, Aston Villa will be no walkovers. The Villan’s might be six places below United in 15th, but with such a congested mid-table, are only three points worse off. They comfortably beat Newcastle last time out and will be confident they can get something here.
We've reviewed the game and picked out our best bet. Check it out below.

Manchester United vs Aston Villa– The Form Guide
With only 17 points from their opening 13 Premier League games, Manchester United are enduring the worst season of their recent history. The Red Devils haven’t managed to string to together more than two Premier League wins in a row for some time which shows how inconsistent they have been.
United celebrated a 3-3 draw away to Sheffield United as a win last weekend, which sums up current expectations. The overall performance in that game was arguably their worst of the season, especially from a defensive point of view. They will need to do a lot better to get the better of Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Villan’s might be below United in the league, but they have pushed teams like Spurs and Liverpool to the limits this season. They have come away from games with nothing when their performances have deserved more. John McGinn, is their engine room in midfield, symbolising everything United’s weak midfield are missing. Captain Jack Grealish has proved his class this season and is looking likely to be captain for years to come.
Villa beat Newcastle in a comfortable 2-0 win on Monday night. They have won the same number of games as United this season (4) and are more than capable of taking something from Old Trafford.
What is the Team News?
Following an experimental line-up in Thursday nights defeat away to Astana, Solskjær will be going back to his strongest 11. Jesse Lingard, although scoring on Thursday put in a below-par performance. However, he might make the starting line-up due to injuries.
Solskjær remains without his preferred midfielders Paul Pogba, and Nemanja Matic through injury. In saying that, Pogba is expected to be back in the team within the next couple of weeks.
On top of those long-term absentees, Scott McTominay has been ruled out until 7th December. He has been picking up the slack for the team, and United look weaker without him.
Luke Shaw took part in the Astana defeat after a long lay-off and showed why youngster Brandon Williams is ahead of him in the pecking order.
Eric Baily, Fonsu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot are also unavailable through injury.
Dean Smith, on the other hand, has almost a fully fit squad to pick from.
Tom Heaton has been on fine form between the sticks and is sure to start. Stand-in keeper Jed Steer is his only notable absentee with an injury.
Bjorn Engels and Jose Peleteiro are doubts but expected to be available.
Manchester United Predicted line-up: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Williams, Fred, Pereira, James, Lingard, Rashford, Martial
Aston Villa Predicted line-up: Heaton, Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Hourihane, Douglas, El-Ghazi, Grealish, Wesley

Manchester United vs Aston Villa Score Prediction
Solskjær has the backing of the board, but should he not win here and lose to Spurs and City in their next two games he will be lucky to keep his job for Christmas. He will field his ‘strongest’ side, but with injuries plaguing his team, we’re not sure his current team have enough to win this as comfortably as the odds suggest.
Aston Villa are enjoying a feel-good vibe following their win on Monday, and although they haven’t taken points off United since a 1-1 draw in 2014, we fancy them to pick up a point here.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Betting Tip
United haven’t been at their best at the back despite having one of the best goalkeepers in the league. In midfield, they can’t seem to get going and there is a lack of leadership there. Going forward they look decent enough with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James forming a good partnership. Those three, if allowed to get forward can be a real nuisance for any defence.
On the other side, Villa are strongest in midfield and will likely boss the game from there. Even if Man United keep it tight, Villa will likely find a way through.
In conclusion, with both teams vulnerable we can see a draw being played out, with both teams scoring. So we’re tipping a draw and both teams to score at 15/4 (4.8).
