Valencia vs Chelsea – The Form Guide

Frank Lampard’s first European game in charge of Chelsea ended in a shock home 1-0 defeat to Wednesday’s rivals. In saying that, it was a tight, tense game in which Ross Barkley missing a penalty. And a different game is expected this time around.

Following on from that defeat, Chelsea went to beat Ajax in Holland and Lille in France. They also came back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with Ajax in an epic Champions League game. That comeback will mean nothing though if Lampard doesn’t get his team over the line into the knock-outs. If Chelsea can win by two goals, they will secure their place on a better head-to-head record with Valencia.

On a domestic front, Chelsea are in fine form. There was no shame in their 2-1 defeat away to Manchester City which ended a six-game winning streak, Chelsea are fourth in the league, seven ahead of fifth-placed Wolves.

On the other hand, since defeating Chelsea, Valencia have gone on to have something of a sticky patch. They were beaten by Ajax in-game round two, were held by Lille in France before beating the same team 4-1 last time out. The Spaniards know that doing the double over the London club would put them on the brink of qualifying, with a tricky away game to Ajax concluding their group games.

In a similar vein, Los Ches again have been in indifferent form domestically. They are currently on a run of two wins in five games, two losses, and a draw. They have conceded 20 goals in 14 games leaving them 10th in La Liga.

What is the Team News?

Valencia lost to Real Betis at the weekend and Albert Ceades could be looking to make a few changes to his starting line-up.

Denis Cheryshev will miss out for the Spaniards as he is still recovering from injury.

Veteran French striker Kevin Gameiro is likely to start the game having been benched at the weekend.

Likewise, Lampard may recall Mason Mount to his starting 11 after starting on the bench at the weekend away to Man City.

Callum Hudson-Odoi will be pushing for a return to the team, depending on his fitness levels.

Defender Andreas Christensen is also back from injury, but Lampard may stick to the back-line he has used for the last few Premier League games.

Predicted Line-Ups

Valencia Predicted line-up: Cillessen; Costa, Gabriel Paulista, Mangala, Gaya; Torres, Parejo, Wass, Vallejo; Gameiro, Gomez

Chelsea Predicted line-up: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Mount; Willian, Abraham, Pulisic.

Valencia vs Chelsea Latest Odds

Interestingly, Valencia are ranked outsiders at 12/5 (3.4). Despite beating Chelsea away, the Spaniards were lucky to do so. Poor performances away to Lille and at home to Ajax are likely to be the reason for this. On top of that, they have quite a leaky defence which Chelsea’s free-scoring team could take advantage of.  The likes of Tammy Abraham who already has 11 goals this season (15/4, 4.75 to score first) will be hoping to pounce on any slackness. The Londoners are EVS (2.0) to get all three points, which could be a tall order.

A draw doesn’t really suit either team and is currently priced at 27/10 (3.7) with bet365.

Valencia vs Chelsea Score Prediction

We think Chelsea will win this game, but not by the two-goal margin needed to secure their place in the knock-outs. Lampard’s young team are brimming with confidence going forward, but small lapses in concentration could cost them. We think it will be a close game, but not as tense as the previous encounter as Chelsea have had time to find their rhythm.

Therefore, we fancy a 2-1 win for the visitors priced at 8/1 (9.0) with bet365.

Valencia vs Chelsea Betting Tip

This should be a very interesting match. Valencia will be desperate to win, or at the very least be looking to avoid defeat with a trip to Amsterdam likely to decide if they will progress further in the tournament. In saying that, Chelsea will be hoping to make up for their earlier loss and a win will put them in a very strong position to qualify.

As organised as Ceades team were at Stamford Bridge, they are facing a different side in terms of confidence and this can make all the difference.

For those reasons, we’re tipping Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 13/5 (3.6).

Best bet: Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 13/5 (3.6) with bet365
