Liverpool can win Group E with a win over Napoli in the penultimate round of group matches on Wednesday evening. The Reds are sitting top of the group with nine points, one better than their Italian rivals.
Napoli are the only team to have beaten Liverpool this season when they secured a 2-0 win back in September. The Italians have gone on to pick up five more points and can qualify for the knock-outs with a win. The question is, can they stop Jurgen Klopp’s men? Find out our predictions here.

Liverpool vs Napoli – The Form Guide
Since losing to Napoli, Liverpool have gone on a 12 game unbeaten run in all competitions, winning 11 of those (one on penalties). They sit top of the Premier League table with an impressive 37 points from a possible 39 dropping points only in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. They are eight points clear of second-placed Leicester and look on course to claim their first Premier League titles in 30 years.
In saying that, The Reds haven’t always been at their best and six of their 11 wins have ended with a 2-1 scoreline. This was the case at the weekend when Klopp’s team showed they can win ugly with a hard-fought, and controversial win over Crystal Palace. This, of course, was not the first time they have been at the centre of VAR controversy, and most likely not the last.
On the other hand, Napoli are struggling domestically. They sit 7th in Serie A with currently on a run of four draws in five games and one loss. In fact, they have won only five of their opening 13 league games which is a very disappointing start indeed.
They have been hitting the headlines recently, but for the wrong reasons. A bust-up between those at the top of the club, manager – Carlo Ancelotti, and the player's has caused a lot of tension, with fans voicing their disapproval. Big fines have been issued to key members of the squad following an alleged ‘mutiny’. The players will need to put this out of their heads them should they want to get a result on Merseyside.
What is the Team News?
The biggest question mark is whether Jurgen Klopp will deem Mohamed Salah fit enough to take part. Or risk playing him heading into a jam-packed fixture schedule. The Egyptian international had to settle for a place on the bench against Crystal Palace but could be used in this match.
Xherdan Shaqiri is still recovering from a calf injury but has returned to training, so may make the bench.
At the back, Joel Matip looks set to miss out as he recovers from a knee injury. Nathaniel Clyne is the only long-term concern for Jurgen Klopp.
In better news, Andy Roberston has recovered well and Fabinho’s suspension does not apply in Europe. Therefore both are available.
In contrast, media reports suggest Lorenzo Insigne will miss out after picking up an elbow injury in their 1-1 draw with AC Milan.
Dries Mertens is recovering from an ankle knock he picked up on international duty but should be fit enough to start.
Liverpool Predicted line-up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Mane, Firmino
Napoli Predicted line-up: Meret, Di Lorenzo, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Luperto, Callejon, Ruis, Zielinski, Llorente, Mertens, Lozano
Liverpool vs Napoli Latest Odds
Liverpool are 21/50 (1.43) with Unibet to get that win that secures their progress as group winners. While Napoli are a massive 13/2 (7.5). The Italians are yet to win at Anfield and this doesn’t seem like the this is their time to do so.
Liverpool vs Napoli Score Prediction
Considering Liverpool's form both domestically, and in Europe recently – it’s hard to look by a win for them. Napoli travel to England with low morale and on very uninspiring form. That makes for a recipe for disaster when visiting Anfield.
In terms of scoring, we don’t think it will be goal-fest, but something of a comfortable win for the Reds. Therefore we fancy a 2-0 win for Liverpool at 13/2 (7.5).
Liverpool vs Napoli Betting Tip
If Liverpool can finish top of their group with a game to spare, Klopp would have the luxury of fielding some of his fringe players in the final game. This would allow his preferred starting squad some much-needed rest during a hectic December period. Therefore we think that the Reds will win here.
Napoli are a club in disarray both on and on the pitch and are without key man Insigne. They beat Liverpool 2-0 in the first match and we can see Liverpool winning by the same scoreline. This incidentally would mean they would finish the same as last season when they two met in the same competition and both registered 1-0 home wins.
