Steve Bruce is heading back to Villa Park for the first time since he left his role back in 2018. He takes with him an in-form Newcastle side who are looking to make it three Premier League wins in a row.
In contrast, the home side have lost three Premier League games in a row so will be hoping to get back to winning ways. This is a classic ‘six-pointer’. If Newcastle win they will pull daylight between themselves and the relegation zone however if Villa wins they will pull closer to The Magpies and away from the drop zone. It should be an interesting encounter.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle – The Form Guide
Villa sits 17th in the table, with only 11 points to their name after 12 games. They are 3 points above Watford in 18th and four behind Newcastle in 13th place. A win here could lift them away from the relegation zone but if they lose, they could be in real trouble.
The Villains have lost three Premier League games in a row, but they have been very tough fixtures. They went down to Manchester City, Liverpool, and Wolves last time out. The rather weak performance against Wolves upset manager Dean Smith, and better things will be expected on Monday from his team.
Steve Bruce’s appointment as manager drew groans from large sections of the fan base, but those groans have been turning to cheers. The Magpies have lost only one in five Premier League games, winning three along the way. An impressive 3-2 away win against West Ham showed that Newcastle are capable of scoring after suffering a drought early in the season.
Newcastle, of course, beat Manchester United 1-0 during this run of games and will believe that they can get a result on Monday.
What is the Team News?
Dean Smith has a few injury concerns heading into a busy period of the season.
Jack Grealish is carrying a knock making him a doubt, but the good news is he has a few extra days to recover with the game being played on Monday night. Villa fans will certainly hope he can shake it off.
Similarly, Björn Engels and Matt Targett are doubts due to niggling injuries. Both, however, are expected to return.
First choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton is likely to miss out, as is his stand-in Jed Steer. This means that third choice keeper Ørjan Nyland may take up the position.
Keinan Davis and Jota won’t be fit enough to take part due to injury.
Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles has been ruled out until at least the New Year with an injury. This is a big blow for Steve Bruce. Swiss international Fabian Schär will likely step in.
Sean Longstaff is suspended for this one and Steven Colback also misses out through injury.
Matt Ritchie is also likely to not recover in time, so won’t feature for the Magpies
Aston Villa Predicted line-up: Nyland; Guilbert, Engels, Mings, Targett; McGinn, Nakamba, Douglas Luiz; Trezeguet, Wesley, Grealish
Newcastle Predicted line-up: ADubravka; Yedlin, Clark, Schar, Fernandez, Willems; Almiron, Hayden, Shelvey, Saint-Maximin; Joelinton
Aston Villa vs Newcastle Latest Odds
This is the first time these two sides will meet since playing in the Championship. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last 10 in all competitions, so it’s quite a surprise to see them as outsiders. Aston Villa are priced at EVS (2.0) to win, while Newcastle are 13/5 (3.6).
Newcastle have had troubles on the road this season, picking up only six points from a possible 18. That could explain why they are a reasonably big price.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle Score Prediction
It’s all about value when we think about correct scores and we think that this one will be tight. Because Aston Villa, despite recent results, have been playing well and have decent home form, we’re going to give the edge to them. In saying that, we think that Newcastle will give them a good game, and are likely to get on the score sheet.
Therefore we fancy a 2-1 win for the home side. You can get a decent 15/2 (8.5) on that with 888Sport.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle Betting Tip
This game should produce goals. This season, 11 of Villas 15 matches have seen both teams score, while seven of Newcastle’s have. On top of that, 12 of those same 15 games for Villa have seen more than 2.5 goals at full-time. These are sides that like to get forward, but leave themselves exposed at the back. Which in turn means goals.
Over 2.5 is a bit short for us to back at 7/10 (1.88) but we do reckon it will happen. In terms of a banker, or as part of an acca we would recommend that bet – however we would combine it with a home win on a single.
With this in mind, our tip for the game is for Aston Villa to win and there to be over 2.5 goals.
