The ‘special one’ returns to Premier League football in the most dramatic of fashions. Within a matter of hours of the news breaking that Pochettino has been dismissed, Mourinho was named as the new Head Coach at Tottenham.

Mourinho has been waiting for the perfect job opportunity to come up, and this could be exactly what he was looking for. Spurs need some order restored at the back, something that the Portuguese boss is something as a master of. Although, he does like to deny his ‘parking the bus’ tactics.

With a special appointment, come special markets. We’ll take a look at which betting options have been appearing and what has caught the eye.

Jose Mourinho

The Jose Mourinho Effect – Latest Odds on Upcoming Spurs Games

As with most new appointments, teams can ride on the wave of the optimism a new manager can bring. It’s no secret that Spurs haven’t been at their best this season but they have the capabilities within their squad to perform at the very top level.

Tottenham sit 14th in the table so Mourinho could hardly do any worse. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Tottenham's odds for their upcoming games have shortened. For example, they have been clipped from Even money (2.0) to beat West Ham on Saturday into 5/6 (1.83) with William Hill.

On top of this, the odds for them to beat Olympiakos in the Champions League, and Bournemouth the following weekend have also shortened up.

Mourinho Manager Specials – Will he lead Spurs to a top-four finish?

One of his biggest goals this season will be to ensure that Tottenham qualify for the Champions League next season. In saying that, it will be no easy feat. We’re already 12 games deep into the season, and Spurs are a massive 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.

The qualification places will be tough for Jose Mourinho to break into. The current top four are looking solid, and all performing well. If he could make it into one of those elusive spots from this position, perhaps he would consider it a better achievement than when he finished second in the league with Manchester United.

The betting suggests that Mourinho has a better chance of achieving his goal than Pochettino did though.

Following Mourinho's appointment, Spurs are now 3/1 (4.0) in from 4/1 (5.0) to finish in the top four with William Hill.

Mourinho Manager Specials – Tottenham to Win Their Next Five Premier League Games in a Row?

The new manager's first few Premier League matches in charge are difficult fixtures. This means we will get to see how he will set his side up in big games. Should he manage to get results in these clashes, it will put Spurs in a much better position heading into the New Year. The mid-table teams are very bunched together at the moment, with only 10 points separating 5th and bottom.

Mourinho would need at least a few good results from his first five Premier League games in charge, but with a tough schedule – he would probably settle for two wins. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Date Against Home or Away
23/11/2019 West Ham Away
30/11/2019 AFC Bournemouth Home
04/12/2019 Manchester United Away
07/12/2019 Burnley Home
05/12/2019 Wolves Away

As you can see, there are some tough asks in there.

William Hill has Spurs to win their next five Premier League games at 20/1 (21.0).

Mourinho to beat Manchester United and Chelsea

Mourinho’s third game in charge sees him return to Old Trafford. It will be very investing to see what kind of reaction he will get on his old stomping ground. Especially considering Manchester United have not got any better since his savage dismissal last season.

Meanwhile, he also has to face Chelsea in December. His once adoring fans there have made it clear that they no longer consider him ‘the special one’ since he took the reins at United. You would think that these are the two games he would personally like to win the most.

Mourinho Specials – To Finish Above Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea

How sweet would it be for Mourinho to finish above his former clubs come the end of the season? He was of course heavily linked to take over at Arsenal too, so would surely enjoy showing the Gunners what they missed. Despite having fewer points than both Arsenal and Manchester United, he is odds on to finish above them in the league this season having taken over at Tottenham.

To Finish Above Latest Odds
Arsenal 8/15 (1.53)
Chelsea 7/2 (4.5)
Manchester United 2/5 (1.4)

Chelsea will be the most difficult to overcome as the odds suggest, but with Mourinho around – anything is possible.
