With the first international break of the season upon us, it’s an ideal time to reflect on the first few weeks of the campaign. Liverpool remain the only team with a 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League. Bet365 are 40/1 (41.0) about the Mersyside club staying unbeaten throughout the 2019-20 season.

Liverpool in red-hot form so far

Jurgen Klopp’s men have taken maximum points from their games against Norwich City, Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley.

While there will be tougher tests to come for the Reds, they have an early advantage over title rivals Manchester City. Bet365’s latest Premier League odds have Liverpool as 5/2 (3.50) second-favourites to claim their first top-flight victory since 1990.

Klopp’s side lost one game in the previous campaign, falling short by a single point. That defeat came at the Etihad Stadium against eventual winners Manchester City. While not impossible, the 40/1 (41.0) on offer about the Reds going one better reflects the size of their challenge.

Liverpool did avoid defeat at Anfield in the Premier League last season though, and it’s 7/2 (4.50) with bet365 that they do so once more. While the Reds have made their home ground a fortress recently, they face the toughest schedule since Klopp’s arrival on Merseyside.

Potential fixture pile up for the Reds

The reigning European champions will have additional Club World Cup obligations in December as well as the defence of their continental crown. Without significant reinforcements in the transfer window, Klopp’s side will need to negotiate a tough end to the calendar year.

The Club World Cup matches would likely see the Premier League trip to West Ham on December 21, plus any Carabao Cup quarter-final clash, needing to be rescheduled for the new year.

Liverpool's December Schedule

Date Fixture Competition
4th Dec 2019 Everton (H) Premier League
7th Dec 2019 Bournemouth (A) Premier League
10th Dec 2019 Salzburg (A) Champions League
14th Dec 2019 Watford (H) Premier League
18th Dec 2019 CWC Semi-final Club World Cup
21st Dec 2019 CWC Final (TBC) Club World Cup
26th Dec 2019 Leicester City (A) Premier League
28th Dec 2019 Wolves (H) Premier League

A 2-2 draw with Tottenham has seen City blink first in the title race, but they remain 2/5 (1.40) favourites to record a third domestic title under Pep Guardiola. City lost four times en route to winning the Premier League last term, but it’s 14/1 (15.0) that they avoid defeat this season.

The bookmakers don’t see anyone else challenging the top two in the Premier League market. Tottenham are a distant third in the betting at 40/1 (41.0) ahead of Arsenal (66/1) and Manchester United (100/1).

Winnable fixtures next up

Liverpool get the return of the top-flight underway when they host Newcastle on 14th September. Later in the day, City head to newly-promoted Norwich. The pair are 1/7 (1.14) and 1/6 (1.17) respectively to come out on top in those matches.

Man City

The only missing piece in Guardiola’s reign in England is the Champions League. His side are 10/3 (4.33) favourites to win the competition this time around. However, the Citizens have failed to make it past the quarter-finals in their history. Liverpool are available at 13/2 (7.50) to be the best team on the continent for the second consecutive year.
