Hoffenheim vs Bayer Leverkusen – The Form Guide
Both sides are coming into the match on the back of slip-ups last time out. Hoffenheim let a one-goal lead slip away at Stuttgart just before the International break to share the spoils, whereas Leverkusen were thumped 3-1 on their own patch by an improving Werder Bremen side.
Hoffenheim have actually won their last two home fixtures, which bodes well ahead of this one. They strolled to victory in February at home to Hannover, before following that up with another 2-1 win against Nurnberg. The home side have not won three on the bounce at home all season, but they’ll be buoyed by the fact that they’ve lost just one of the last six Bundesliga matches against Friday’s opponents.
Although Leverkusen lost last time out, their away form has been pretty good. They won 3-2 at Hannover on their last trip away from home, and they’ve lost just twice in their last seven outings. Not only that, but they’ve also scored an impressive ten goals in their last four away games.
Leverkusen have beaten Hoffenheim 14 times in the Bundesliga overall, scoring 44 goals in the process. Only Bayern Munich have a better historical record against them. They like playing Die Kraichgauer.
What is the Team News?
English starlet Reiss Nelson is doubtful with a thigh injury, whereas the likes of Geiger, Kramaric, and Szalai will all miss out through injury. Nico Schulz played well during the International break, scoring the winner for Germany in their win over Holland, but he will play no part in this one due to suspension.
As far as the away side are concerned, Wendell is also another player to miss out through suspensions. Lars Bender’s ill at the moment, so it remains to be seen if he makes it or not.
Hoffenheim Predicted XI: Baumann, Posch, Bicakcic, Vogt, Kaderabek, Grillitsch, Demirbay, Brenet, Bittencourt, Joelinton, Belfodil.
Bayer Leverkusen Predicted XI: Hradecky, Weiser, Tah, S Bender, Jedvaj, Havertz, Aranguiz, Brandt, Bellarabi, Bailey, Volland.
The bookies expect a tight one on Friday night. Hoffenheim are priced odds against at 13/10, whereas Leverkusen are 7/4. The draw’s available at 14/5 if you fancy it.
1-2. There are always goals in this fixture and I don’t think Friday night will be any different. Both sides play some decent football, which could well see it being a very open affair. Ok, so Leverkusen did lose their last game, but they’re in decent form on the road and they enjoy playing Hoffenheim. This exact fixture last season ended 4-1 to the away side. I don’t think it’ll be that easy this time, but I think Leverkusen will edge an entertaining match under the lights at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
The bookies fully expect both teams to score in this one as the price is very shot at 2/7. Nico Schulz is missing for the home side, which is a big blow considering his form. Leverkusen are a decent price at 7/4, so that’s simply what I’m going for. Leverkusen to win at good odds. Join me.
