Everton vs Chelsea – The Form Guide
Marco Silva’s very lucky to still be in a job if you ask some Everton fans. Their form has been abysmal of late. It’s just one win since January for the Toffees, with recent defeats to Newcastle and Watford effectively ending any challenge for a top seven spot.
Although Everton beat Bournemouth at Goodison in January, you have to go back to November to find another home win in the Premier League. They need to be on top of their game to get anything on Sunday against a side they’ve not beaten in the league since 2015.
In contrast, Chelsea are going well since stuttering at the beginning of the year. It’s two wins and a draw in the league since their 6-0 humiliation at the hands of City in February. One glimmer of hope for the home side is that Chelsea have actually lost three of their last four away games. They’ve scored just twice and conceded 13 in those four games.
The last two games between these two sides have ended goalless. If Chelsea start Olivier Giroud on Sunday, goals could be a banker as he effortlessly bagged a hat-trick in midweek against Dynamo Kiev. Gonzalo Higuain is still adapting to life in England. If he starts, it could be a tight game.
Team News – Injuries and Suspensions
Everton have no new injury concerns to contend with, so Marco Silva will need to decide between the likes of Walcott and Bernard this weekend. The Everton manager hasn’t been afraid to drop players for poor performances, but Jordan Pickford seems to be immune from his way of thinking. England’s number one is expected to keep his place.
As for Chelsea, Higuain was rested in midweek. He’s had an illness which could keep him out of Sunday’s game if he doesn’t recover. He’s the only real doubt. It will be a case of how much rotating Sarri wants to do as to who starts this weekend.
Everton Predicted XI: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne, Gueye, Gomes, Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Bernard, Calvert-Lewin.
Chelsea Predicted XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Pedro, Hazard, Giroud.
1-2. I think Everton will give Chelsea a decent game. The home side know that they need to improve their home performances. They’ve not been good enough. The last two meetings have ended 0-0, but I see goals here with the attacking threat of both sides. Hazard is always a menace, whereas Everton have an Icelandic playmaker who knows how to find the net. Chelsea will win this. Just.
Chelsea are odds on for the win away from home at 10/11. I was looking at Both Teams to Score, but the odds are even shorter at 8/11. Back Chelsea to win at slightly odds on, but if you want a better price, consider Chelsea and both teams to score at odds of 3/1.
