What are the Latest Betting Odds?
Schalke have no chance if you consider the odds on offer. Well, they have a chance, but it’s a very, very slim chance. Manchester City are overwhelming favourites to win this one at odds of 1/8. The away side are available at 22/1, with the draw priced at 7/1.
Looking at the history of teams who have scored three away in the first leg, none have failed to progress. That’s happened 27 times in Champions League history. With that in mind, it’s probably worth steering clear of the draw or the away win on Tuesday night. Yes, the odds look attractive, but they’re that big for a reason.
This is probably the best market to consider for a little bit of value. It could well be a question of how many as far as the home side are concerned, so consider City -2.75 on the Asian Handicap. If they win by three or more, the bet lands and you’re a winner. The odds? 6/5. Pretty good.
If you love betting on selections above evens to try and get a little more bang for your buck, then you probably enjoy backing goalscorers, especially first goalscorers.
Here’s a quick list of some of the popular picks for first and anytime goalscorer on Tuesday night. The First Goalscorer odds are listed first.
Sergio Aguero – 5/2 & 6/10
Raheem Sterling – 9/2 & 4/5
Leroy Sane – 9/2 & 21/10
David Silva – 13/2 & 8/5
Ahmed Kutucu – 16/1 & 15/4
Breel Embolo – 20/1 & 17/2
Team News – Injuries and Suspensions
Fernandino and Nicolas Otamendi are suspended for this match. Fernandinho is still injured anywhere. So too is Kevin De Bruyne. John Stones could play some part as he is very close to a comeback after a groin injury. Aymeric Laporte is also on his way back and will hope to be back in the starting eleven.
As for Schalke, Breel Embolo could lead the line as striker Mark Uth has been left out of the squad for disciplinary reasons. Amine Harit will miss the match for the same reason.
Manchester City Predicted XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Zinchenko, B Silva, Gundogan, D Silva, Sane, Sterling, Aguero
Schalke Predicted XI: Fahrmann, Caligiuri, Bruma, Sane, Nastasic, Oczipka, McKennie, Serdar, Bentaleb, Mendyl, Embolo
4-0. Schalke have been in terrible form since the first leg. Losing 3-0 away at Mainz, 4-0 at home to Fortuna, and 4-2 on Friday away at Werder Bremen. They need to throw caution to the wind to get back into the tie, but that will leave plenty of gaps for City to exploit. Which they will.
Tip of the Day
The betting tip for this match is for City to win by three or more on the Asian Handicap. The line that offers the best value looks to be -2.75, which is priced at 6/5 at the time of writing. Schalke are fighting for their lives in the Bundesliga, and now need to focus their attention on that rather than the Champions League, which their manager admits will be an almost impossible task at the Etihad. With negativity like that before a match, the result normally only goes one way.
