Werder Bremen and Schalke lock horns in the Bundesliga on Friday night with both sides looking for the three points for contrasting reasons. A win for the home side would see them move up to eighth in the race for a European place, whereas Schalke need the three points to put some daylight between themselves and the dreaded relegation zone.

Bremen vs Schalke – The Latest Odds
There’s no clear favourite for this one with Werder Bremen at 29/20 to snatch all three points. Schalke have been priced up at 3/1, with the draw on offer at odds of 12/5.
It’s seven league games without defeat for Die Werderaner, but five of those have been draws. In contrast, Schalke haven’t won in the Bundesliga since January, and they’ve been hammered 3-0 and 4-0 by Mainz and Fortuna Dusseldorf respectively in their last two outings. In fact, Domenico Tedesco’s side has failed to score in their last three matches, so getting a positive result on Friday night won’t be easy.
If you cast your mind back to October, you may remember that is was Werden Bremen who came out on top 2-0 when the two sides met in the reverse fixture in Gelsenkirchen. If you fancy a repeat of that scoreline, you can enjoy odds of 17/2 on a 2-0 home win.
Florian Kohfeldt’s side have drawn their last three Bundesliga games 1-1. They couldn’t make it four 1-1 draws in a row, could they? The odds on a 1-1 draw is 11/2.
It’s worth noting that there’s not been a draw between these two for over four years. Does that mean we’re due one? Not if Schalke’s form is anything to go by, no. The away side did manage to win this exact fixture last season 2-1, although they weren’t battling relegation back then. However, a repeat of that 2-1 triumph is available at odds of 11/1 if you think lightning make strike twice.
Total Goals Over/Under
If you love a punt on the number of goals scored in games, consider overs in this fixture. There’s always plenty of goals scored when this match comes around. There’s not been a 0-0 played out between the two sides since 2005, so expect goals on Friday.
Ok, so the reverse fixture may have only seen two goals, but Schalke had 12 shots on goal that day. Bearing that in mind, and the fact that the previous six meetings before that saw over 2.5 goals land, it’s definitely worth considering going for over 2.5 goals here. The odds? Slightly odds on at 4/5, but it’s got a great chance.
If you want a little more value, over 3.5 goals is available at odds of around 11/5, with over 4.5 goals priced up at 5/1. As mentioned earlier, Werder Bremen love a 1-1 draw at the moment, so under 1.5 goals could be the one to go for at odds of 3/1. However, the price on the 1-1 draw is a lot better, so it makes no sense to back under 1.5 goals if you think it could be 1-1 again. Go for the correct score price.
Whether it’s the first, last, or anytime goalscorer market you enjoy a bet on, there’s plenty of value to be had in these markets.
Claudio Pizzaro, Max Kruse, and Davy Klassen have all found the net in recent weeks for Bremen. If you fancy either of them to break the deadlock on Friday, you can get odds on them to score first of 5/1, 11/2, and 6/1 respectively. It’s the same odds in the last goalscorer market. Prefer the anytime goalscorer market? Pizarro’s available at 6/4, Kruse at 21/10, and Klaassen at 12/5.
As for Schalke, they’re really struggling for goals. If you ignore the two penalties against Manchester City in the Champions League, it’s been a month since Schalke last scored in the Bundesliga. Ahmed Kutucu was the scorer when they went down 3-1 away at Bayern at the start of February. He’s 7/1 to open the scoring against Werder Bremen or 11/5 to bag one at any point in the match.
Die Königsblauen have their work cut out this weekend, but with Swiss sensation Breel Embolo in the side, anything is possible. If he shows up, he has the ability to give the Bremen backline a torrid time. He’s priced up with bookies at a tempting 17/2 to score first, 12/5 anytime.
Betting Tips and Predictions
Sorry Schalke fans, it could well be another defeat for your team. There’s no cohesion in the side and they can’t seem to buy a league goal at the moment. Werder Bremen, with their fans behind them as the twelfth man, will want to keep pushing for a European spot, so a home win seems likely.
Not only that, but the away side may already have one eye on the Manchester City games a few days later. Nobody will want to miss that through injury as they still have a great chance of pulling off a shock.
Schalke could score on Friday, but a home win still looks on the cards. 2-1 is the prediction. That’s available at 15/2.
The safer bet would be for over 2.5 goals to be scored at fairly decent odds of 4/5. It’s also worth backing up this prediction with that fact that there have been over 2.5 goals scored in each of Schalke’s last four away games in the Bundesliga.
