Plenty of pundits were scratching their heads when Javi Gracia replaced Marco Silva at Watford. However, Gracia, something of a journeyman as a player, has turned Watford's fortunes around. The Spanish boss was underwhelming during his sole season in charge of Rubin Kazan, leaving after finishing 9th in 2016/17.
The Watford players are clearly enjoying life under Gracia, and Kiko Femenia is one example of someone who has improved under him. The Spanish full back spoke to the media during the week and he was full of praise for Gracia and the impact he has made at Vicarage Road.
Femenia: Gracia Has Clear Plan For Watford
In his interview Femenia revealed the regard in which Gracia is held by the Watford players. He said: “He has helped me a lot and is a very good coach with very clear ideas. At the same time we have to help him as well because he came in a very delicate moment in the club.”
“He has delivered very good results in the club. Since he came here he helped a lot and has good football ideas to play with. As players we have to show him support and vice versa. He came at a very delicate moment. We need to show we are with him and are all pulling together.”
Record Finish On The Cards
With just 7 games remaining Watford are currently 11th in the Premier League table with 36 points. Their record points total in the EPL is 46 points, so Gracia will be looking to finish strong and perhaps go into the history books.
Considering that The Hornets endured a woeful run of results mid season (1 win from 12) it would be a big achievement if they reach 47 points. Without that mid season blip they would be in an even stronger position. Whatever happens, Watford and Gracia have a solid foundation to build upon for next season.
