Arsenal kept their recent momentum going on Thursday night in the Europa League against AC Milan. The Gunners were in pole position after their 2-0 win at the San Siro and they finished the job at The Emirates. A Danny Welbeck Brace and a rare Granit Xhaka strike sealed a 3-1 win on the night.
That is three wins in a row for Arsenal now and it eases the pressure on Arsene Wenger. The Fench coach's position had come under fierce scrutiny after a woeful run in the Premier League. However, his team seems to have turned a corner and The Gunners are back firing on all cylinders.
Wenger Delighted By Arsenal Response
Arsenal's manager and players came in for some fierce criticism in recent weeks. However, Arsene Wenger is delighted with their response to the doubters. After their win against AC Milan he said: “It's much better, we needed that to recover from our results.”
“It shows how the team has responded. We had a difficult game but in the end we won it. It was an open game. We played backwards a bit too much in the first half to protect the result. We played a very good side. We've to improve defensively, but overall we are team with technical quality which is more offense-minded.”
Wenger Wants To Avoid Atletico
Arsenal will really like their chances of lifting the Europa League now. The Gunners would fancy themselves against most of the teams that remain, but there is one side Wenger is desperate to avoid. He was asked about the draw and who he would prefer in the next round and his reply was unequivocal.
He stated: “We would certainly want to avoid Atletico Madrid, but we will see. We have no influence over that.” Over two legs Atletico would certainly be favourites, but if Arsenal can avoid them until the final then anything can happen on the night.
