Mourinho Thrilled With Recent Form Of Sergeant Lukaku

On Saturday at lunchtime two of the Premier League's biggest rivals collide at Old Trafford. Romelu Lukaku is likely to lead the line and his manager praised him in Friday's press conference. Lukaku has hit top form in recent weeks, not only scoring goals but creating them too.

Earlier this season plenty of pundits, and Utd fans, were questioning his work rate and overall contribution. He is answering his critics in emphatic style, even scoring against his former club Chelsea. A lack of goals in big games has often been used as a stick to beat the Belgian with. The Red Devils' faithful will be hoping he can score in the biggest match of all on Saturday.

Mourinho: Lukaku Attitude Phenomenal

In his press conference on Friday Jose Mourinho was effusive in his praise of Lukaku. He gushed: “He is an important guy for me. He is one of the guys that I trust. I love the attitude and the character. ”

“Against Crystal Palace, after our third goal, I told him to play as a central defender in a back five…because I could not make any more changes. So, when I say to a striker, ‘Go there and do that job for me', then he is a sergeant.

“He is a guy that you can trust. His attitude is phenomenal. That is why I told you many times that, for me, it is not just about the goals he scores, it is about what he brings to the team. And he brings to the team exactly that spirit.”

Changes Likely For Utd

With a crucial Champions League 2nd leg tie with Sevilla to come on Tuesday, Mourinho might rotate his squad. Utd have more or less got a top 4 spot wrapped up, and City are out of sight at the top of the table.

The Champions League and FA Cup are Utd's only remaining chances of winning silverware this season. It would be no surprise if, just like last season, Mourinho prioritises Europe. After all, silverware is what matters and Utd fans would surely prefer winning the Champions League to finishing 2nd in the EPL.
