Claude Puel gave anxious Leicester fans the news they were dying to hear on Saturday. The stories linking Riyad Mahrez with a move from the King Power just won't go away. Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are all rumoured to be in the hunt for the tricky Algerian wideman. However, Leicester boss Claude Puel claims he is staying put.
Mahrez found life tough under Craig Shakespeare, but Puel has helped him to rediscover his form. He has scored two in his last three Premier League appearances and it is no surprise that he is in demand.
Puel: Mahrez A Happy Man
Puel was quizzed on his star man's future after Leicester's 0-0 FA Cup draw at Fleetwood. He insisted: “I am happy with him and I think he is enjoying his football. He is a happy man and I have had a discussion with him.”
“Riyad wants to play with this team. He likes the way we are trying to play, on the floor. I think it is important. He has produced goals and assists in the last games. It is important he keeps this good focus and concentration until the end of the season.”
Maguire Also Linked With Move
Although Mahrez has produced the goods for Leicester in recent weeks, the same cannot be said for most of his team-mates. After a promising start to the Puel era their form has slumped, winning just 1 of their last 7 in all competitions. One exception has been centre back Harry Maguire.
He has impressed a lot of shrewd judges with his form for Leicester, and some believe he belongs at a higher level. His strength defensively and his quality on the ball are exactly the sort of qualities that Pep Guardiola likes to see in a centre back, and it would be no surprise to see a City bid at some point. Just like Mahrez, Maguire is a player that Leicester can ill afford to lose.
