Pochettino: Spurs Got Lucky vs Swansea But Still Deserved To Win

Spurs needed an offside Fernando Llorente goal to take the lead vs Swansea on a miserable night at The Liberty. Mauricio Pochettino insisted that he didn't see the incident, but he claimed his team still deserved the victory. Spurs didn't have it all their own way on Tuesday night, and Sanchez was fortunate to avoid seeing red.

Swansea showed good fighting spirit under new boss Carlos Carvalhal, but it wasn't enough. A late Dele Alli strike sealed the win for Tottenham, and they move above Arsenal in the Premier League table into 5th. A top 4 finish could still be on the cards for Spurs this season.

Poch: Spurs Needed Luck

Mauricio Pochettino was understandably delighted to leave Wales with a win, and he acknowledged that his team rode their luck. Speaking after the match he said: “I didn’t see, but the people tell me it was offside.”

“You need some luck to open the game. Always in football, sometimes it is for you, sometimes it is against you. And you need to accept that in one season this will happen.”

“It was difficult to play good football in those conditions. We fought – we dominated – and in the end we deserved the three points. I’m pleased because these three points keep us in a very good position in the table.”

Top 4 Fight

Tuesday night's win was a massive one for Spurs as they battle for a top 4 Premier League finish. A defeat would have left them 7 points behind 4th placed Liverpool, a big gap even at this early stage. However, they are well within striking distance now and they can get to within a point with a victory at Wembley on Thursday.

They face a resurgent West Ham side in that match and they will need to be at their best to win. Tottenham fans will be relieved that Harry Kane is recovered from illness and he will be ready to start against The Hammers. They will need all hands on deck for the rest of the season if they want to secure that coveted top 4 spot.
