David Wagner has done a wonderful job since taking over at Huddersfield. Jurgen Klopp's protegee has brought enthusiasm and hope to a club that was in the doldrums for far too long. If you asked any Huddersfield fan a couple of years ago would they be in the Premier League in 2017/18, they would have laughed at you. Yet, here they are. They aren't just making up the numbers either, sitting in 12th with 18 points. Wagner is going to try his best to orchestrate a Huddersfield win against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Wagner Wants Top Performance
David Wagner is not underestimating the task that lies ahead of his team on Tuesday night. Even though Chelsea lost at West Ham last time out, he knows that they have quality throughout their team. Speaking to the media yesterday Wagner said: “I will take everything against a team like Chelsea.”
“We have to be on a top performance and we cannot give one easy chance away. We have to avoid unforced errors and have to be at our top level and then we will see how this team works. It's a little bit like a cup tie. I would take an ugly set-piece goal if it settles the match in our favour.”
Huddersfield had lost four in a row, but they bounced with a vital win vs Brighton. Wagner was understandably delighted with the display, one of their best performances of the season. In his post match interview he stated: “It was a very good performance from the defence to the offence, from the stands to the grass.”
“We showed high quality and I’m very proud with what we've done today, it was an absolutely deserved result. There was energy, aggression, desire, everything what we wanted to show.” Huddersfield will need more of the same if they are to stand a chance against the reigning Champions on Tuesday.
