Pochettino: Tottenham Are Not At Real Madrid’s Level

After Tottenham drew 1-1 with Watford on Saturday Mauricio Pochettino had a message for his players. Perhaps he thinks complacency was setting in as he has reminded them of their limitations. The pressure is mounting on Pochettino after a poor run of results in the Premier League. They have now gone 4 games without a win, losing twice, and they are only 6th in the Premier League table.

Criticism Makes Tottenham Stronger

Speaking to the media after the Watford match Pochettino said: “I don't know what people say [about us]. Of course when you don't win and you play for or manage Spurs there's always going to be criticism.”

“But of course I accept that, I try to learn after every game. But I think in the last two or three seasons Spurs have been very competitive. Yes, of course we want to avoid bad moments and periods but we are not still this type of team like Barcelona or Real Madrid that can maybe keep winning and winning for long periods.”

“When people criticise us, my staff and my team, that always makes you stronger, and sometimes that's good. We have maybe three points less than this time last season, and we've finished top of our Champions League group. Manchester City have created a gap, but I'm sure the team will improve and take many lessons from this run.”

Spurs' Struggles

It has been a painful couple of weeks for Spurs supporters. They have won just 1 of their last 6, losing to Man Utd, Arsenal and Leicester. Their sole win during that period came against bottom side Crystal Palace, and even that was a match they could easily have drawn.

Tottemham now trail leaders Man City by a massive 18 points, and a title challenge looks well beyond them. They are currently 4 points behind 4th placed Liverpool, and Pochettino will want to ensure that Spurs make it into the Champions League next season. If they don't, this season will be seen as a complete disaster.
