At one stage last season Cesc Fabregas' future at Stamford Bridge was looking bleak. However, the Spanish midfielder fought for his place and he is back in favour with Antonio Conte. The Italian manager didn't think that Fabregas was sufficiently defensively disciplined for the formation he favoured. However, Fabregas worked hard to improve that side of his game. He is now a key cog in the Blue Machine and he is one of the first names on the team sheet.
“Now my relationship with the manager is fantastic. He trusts me. He knows exactly what I can give to the team. I’m very happy. I am where I want to be. That’s all down to belief, trust and hard work. You need to adapt to the methods and philosophy of the manager. I had to adapt myself especially defensively to a new role. It’s not the biggest of my strengths, but I have to adapt.”
There is no doubt that Fabregas has now convinced Conte that he is up to the task at Chelsea. The Italian manager has praised him for the work he has put into becoming a more rounded player. Conte said: “This season he has continued to work very hard, showed me great commitment and behaviour. Cesc has great ambition. He’s a winner in his mind, in his mentality.” For now, the future looks bright for Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea.
