Chris Hughton's Brighton team face one of their toughest tests of the season this Saturday. They welcome Liverpool to The Amex Stadium and Hughton is worried about the threat posed by Mo Salah. The Liverpool winger has been scoring goals for fun in recent weeks. He has 17 in all competitions so far this season. He bagged a brace in midweek at Stoke and if Brighton are to have any hope they need to put the shackles on the Egyptian.
Brighton were amongst the pre season favourites for relegation, but they have defied expectations so far. They are sitting comfortably in mid table in 10th, 7 points clear of the drop zone. They have lost just 1 of their last 7, but Hughton is well aware of the threat posed by Liverpool, and especially Salah, on Saturday. Speaking to the media earlier this week he said:
“He’ll be difficult to face that’s for sure. He’s been in good form for the last few seasons but most people in England may not have been so aware of that. At the moment he’s outstanding. He started on the bench on Wednesday and still managed to come on and score two goals. That shows the real quality he has. He scores different types of goals as well, we’re very conscious of both his form and his abilities ahead of Saturday.”
One of the reasons for Brighton's success this season is their strong home form. They have lost just once, to Man City, and they have won two and drawn five. Picking up points at The Amex will be crucial if they are to stay out of trouble.
Brighton have exceeded expectations so far and Hughton deserves huge credit. They didn't spend a huge amount on transfers but they have shown that team spirit and hard work can go a long way, even in the Premier League.
