Although it is not officially a Derby, Bournemouth and Southampton have a healthy rivalry. The South Coast clubs clash at The Vitality Stadium on Sunday and kick off is at 13.30. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says it is a massive game for his team. The Cherries are struggling this season and Howe believes a win would be a huge boost for his players. And for the Bournemouth supporters too.
Howe Wants Fans To Get Involved
After a disappointing home defeat to Burnley in midweek, Howe is hoping for a big reaction from his players. He is expecting the Bournemouth fans to be in boisterous mood. Howe wants his team to give them something to shout about. Howe spoke to the media this week and he said: “I hope that there will be a really good atmosphere and a full house and we can really get going.”
“You've got to set your stall out in the game and really give your fans a platform to get involved as a home team.” He then said this about the Burnley defeat: “From the starting 11, I thought we were below what we're capable of, probably one to 11. The substitutes will feel that they've had a positive impact. That obviously gives me food for thought for the next game.”
If those quotes are anything to go by, Howe is likely to ring the changes on Sunday. Arter, Pugh and Ibe were all hauled off. It would be no surprise if all three players found themselves warming the bench on Sunday.
Fraser, Defoe and especially Lewis Cook made a positive impact off the bench and that trio will be hoping to start. Bournemouth are currently 15th in the Premier League table, 4 points clear of the drop zone, and a win would be massive for them on Sunday.
