The FA have announced that Oumar Niasse is going to be charged with ‘successfully deceiving a match official'. The Senegalese striker won his team a penalty against Crystal Palace but the FA believe that he dived. He went down very easily from a Scott Dann challenge and referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot. Leighton Baines buried the resulting penalty.
Everton Outraged At Niasse Charge
Niasse insists that he has done nothing wrong and that Dann made contact. The Everton striker claimed: “It was on my upper body and when I felt the contact, I was in the box, so that is it. That is all I have to do. Go on the floor. If you watch the video, you can understand there is contact.”
Everton are very angry with the FA's decision and they are appealing it today. If the appeal is unsuccessful, Niasse will have the dubious honour of being the first EPL player retrospectively suspended for diving. Players from the Championship have got banned, but never anyone from the top flight.
New Everton Manager
David Unsworth is the current caretaker manager at Everton but he is unlikely to get the job full time. Rumours suggested that Louis Van Gaal was in the running but he has denied any approach by Everton. In any case, he is unlikely to come out of retirement to take over a club embroiled in a relegation battle.
Marco Silva is the bookies favourite for the Everton job. It is hard to see why he would leave Watford given the position they are in. Silva is a manager with a lot of potential though, and if The Toffees do secure his services he could do very well at Goodison Park. They need to get somebody in quick because the longer it takes, the more precarious their league position will become.
