Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt has said that Virgil Van Dijk would be a great signing for his former club. The now retired striker has been keeping a close eye on the Dutch defender's progress since he moved South from Celtic.
Van Dijk A Great Player
In an interview with Sky Sports Kuyt said: “I know Virgil. I didn't play with him in the national team but he's a great player.” “We'll see how things will go in the winter break or at the end of the season.
“I don't think it's strange for me to say he is a player who will suit Liverpool very well. He has the right mentality and he is a great defender.”He could do a great job at Liverpool but it's not for me to say if he would be an improvement or not. That's up to the club.”
Defensive Woes At Liverpool
There is no doubting the fact that Liverpool need to strengthen at the back in January. Dejan Lovren is far from reliable and he has struggled with injuries this season. Joel Matip hasn't looked as solid as last season either, while Klavan looks below the required standard.
Simon Mignolet has also contributed to the defensive woes at Liverpool with some shaky displays. They have only conceded 1 goal in their last 4 games, but they were up against some poor teams. The Reds have conceded 17 goals this season, 10 more than Man City and 11 more than Man Utd. Klopp needs to shore things up at the back, and Van Dijk could be the answer.
