Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has played down rumours linking his club with a £200m transfer move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Various newspapers were reporting today that Manchester City will try to trigger a £200m clause in the Argentinian star contract at Camp Nou.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the FA cup quarter-final game Pellegrini made things clear with a short and clear comment: “Just rumours”.
Citizens coach had more to say about new deals for his current players Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott.
“They are both an important part of what we have done so far this season, and they both have an important part to play in the future,” he said.
Manchester City will face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday before they travel for their Champions League clash against Catalans next week. After loosing 0:2 at City of Manchester Stadium they will however find it really difficult to qualify to the quarter-finals of the competition there.
