Pardew sent to stands after headbutting Hull City player

PardewNewcastle United manager Alan Pardew was sent to stands after headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler. The Magpies still managed to win the game 4:1 after goals from Sissoko (x2), Remy and Anita.

Pardew lost is temper when his site was already leading 3:1. Meler chased the ball and moved Pardew aside in the process as he wanted to quickly get the ball back to play. The pair then squared at each other. Meyler shoved Pardew, who in turn attempted to headbutt the Hull player. It’s not really clear if he managed to do that but referee Kevin Friend had no other choice but to send Pardew to stands.

Gary Lineker who was commenting the game on Twitter just couldn’t believe what happened:

Speaking after the match, Pardew said: “It was a heat of the moment thing. I massively regret it. I think I need to sit down from now on as a manager.

“I didn’t mean to do anything aggressive but I put my head forward and that’s enough. It was because I was standing up that I put myself in the situation so perhaps it will teach me to sit down”.

Hull manager Steve Bruce said: “I think Alan knows he’s been stupid and apologised.

“In the heat of the game we all do silly things and I think he regrets it. It’s a game of football with emotions.

“I haven’t seen it before but it’s gone, as far as we’re concerned. We’ve accepted his apology and moved on.”
