Champions League group stage summary

Champions League group stage finished yesterday with some decent performance from most of the Premier League teams. Let’s take a look how the whole campaign looked for Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal and maybe more importantly what are their chances in the knock out stage.

Manchester United

Manchester had a relatively easy group with Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhatar Donetsk and Real Sociedad. However with new coach David Moyes on the bench there were still some doubts if they will manage to qualify especially considering pretty poor performance in the Premier League.

The Red Devils however did their job nicely getting 4 wins and 2 draws. That means no loss and only 3 goals conceded. Really nice performance hasn’t however impressed the bookies. They see United pretty far on the favorites list with odds of around 19.00 to win the competition this year.

Champions League Group A

Manchester City

Group D featured Manchester City together with the big favorites Bayern Munchen followed by Victoria Plzen and CSKA Moscow. Citizens were always going to qualify from this group. The main question was if they would be able to challenge Bayern for the first place here.

As expected both teams got it pretty easy getting 15 points each and City missed just one goal in their away win over Bayern on the last match day to snatch the group win from the Germans.

After such a good performance Manchester is the biggest title contender from English Premier League being behind Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid with odds of around 6.00 – 6.50.

Champions League Group D

Chelsea London

The Blues found themselves in a tricky group with Schalke 04, Basel and Steaua. eventually they got a qualification from first spot but loosing two games in the process was not an impressive thing to see from Jose Mouriho and his men.

Mainly because of that odds for Chelsea winning the cup this year dropped to around 15.00 to 17.00.

Champions League Group E

The Gunners probably had the most difficult group you could imagine with last year’s finalist Borussia Dortmund and really solid Napoli hoping to get qualification followed by Marseille that always looked as outsiders here.

Arsenal did pretty well in their first 5 games but they failed to win the group after being beaten 0:2 by Napoli this week. Very interesting group though with 3 teams getting 12 points. Napoli especially unlucky here as in every other group they would have easily qualified from second spot with 12 points on the account (only apart from group D with Bayern and City).

Still Arsenal is somehow seen as the worst Premier League team in the competition with bookies giving them even smaller chances of final success than to Manchester United – odds of up to 21.00.

Champions League Group F

Champions League knock out stage

Chelsea and Manchester United should have it easier in the first round of knock out stage after their qualification from first spots in the group. Arsenal and Man City will be likely facing much harder opponents with likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern all winning their groups.

Difficult to place any bets at the moment but Bayern together with Real really looks as strong favorites this season. Still a lot depends on the draw and we will surely report to you how it goes for English teams.
